extra power

  clio sport 172 ph1
Want to add abit more power to the ph1 172. want to hear your oppinions on what will give me biggest bang for my ££££. Thinking along the lines of a re-map, exhaust system or de-cat. Please help money is alittle short at the moment so dont want to make wrong desicion. cheers

Theres little power to be had on "small" mods, they will how ever increase the driveability especially a Remap.

If you want large power increase, 2.5K for ITBs, 4K for Turbos/Superchargers.

On a serious note, I would really recommend the RSTuner remap. It doesnt give extra power, but as above, it does improve the driveability and feels much nicer throughout the rev range.

IMPO start with the basics, itg replacement panel filter, exhaust, de-cat and on the Clio's match the inlets and get an rs tuner map, and get a larger air feed

You'll probably spend nomore than 700 quid and gain around 10-15bhp

If i were going to charge my car I'd want all the above done anyway to improve the flow of air etc in and out of the motor, whether it be turbo or super charged

as for prices

ITG for ph1 airbox is £33 from merlin motorsport
Good quality exhaust and de-cat £450 new, maybe get the full lot 300 second hand
matched inlets £150 on an exchange basis
RS tuner 150 including unlocking

I'd prefer a good quality second hand exhaust with all baffles/welds intact

there you go, done for 6-700 quid, not a lot considering you have to do the foundations for any other car aswell

If you're truely short of cash, start by taking out the spare wheel/jack and any other junk you may have in the car, less weight, better power to weight, free speed, less weight to slow down so should also stop better

Those are all good ideas but a Pipercross panel filter flows roughly 30% better than an ITG according to data I have seen and also you might make 10bhp with those mods but they driveability will be greatly improved.

Its worth fitting decent tyres and thinking about the suspension and brakes IMHO more than just upgrading the power as the 1*2's are excellent handling cars when setup right.

As Pirelli say power is nothing without control (there tyres are s**t though lol)

;)
