Extreme Pack??

just taken the Trophy for its MOT and was gutted to realise it had failed on a broken rear spring

just the point on the end of the bottom coil. Rang my local Renault dealer up for a price and was told that my car had the 'Extreme Pack' on it, and it would be £138+vat

. Now i have 2 questions, what the hell is an 'extreme pack'? and what is the actual difference between these springs and pattern springs that would cost me £25+vat?

Extreme pack is what they called it when you had both the packs. The spoilers and the wheels.

But I thought the Trophy had all the fancy sachs jazz? No idea really on that bit.

Not quite sure exactly but as far as i know the sachs is only the front suspension on the trophy and the rear is the same set up as the cup, there is definately a difference in cup and non cup rear suspension as when you buy aftermarket cup suspension it costs more than non cup......i think!

no the sachs suspension is front and back and i do know that the trophy sits lower than the normal cups, its just the extreme pack thing that confused me

Lol it was a guy with a Trophy who told me that only the fronts were sachs........i guess he was full of s**t, needs to do more research on the car he bought i think

You sure bout Sachs at the back? I thought was standard cup shocks on rear.

Update from another chap on the Trophy forum:

The Trophy does have different back springs to a normal 182/cup. The back springs are marked with two small squares of colour, I think this is how they are usually identified. The colour's if I recall are a red mark and a white one!

A pair of these springs from Renault will cost around £300inc VAT. I know this as a friend of mine owns a Renault garage and rally's 1*2's! He got me to bring my Trophy up to his garage to put it on his ramp to confirm the 2 identification marks, so that he could order some for one of his cars! He then said "try not to break one of these, there expensive"

He didnt know what brand they are, but iirc front front springs are Eibach. Front dampers are Sachs & the rear dampers have a Renault Part no on them - just checked

well my car without doubt has Sachs rear shocks so i always presumed that they all did, unless this is what they mean by the 'extreme pack':S

Just get the koni's. They're about £110 each iirc.

Would explain why the car likes to understeer on the limit then i guess. The back end is just too soft compared to the front ...
