f.a.o Ben or Jay172

Last night my throttle cable jammed on my valver and for some reason at the same time the bonnet release cable isnt working. The bonnet is open but i cant get it to close and lock shut. Now i have disconnected the throttle cable from the throttle end (as the tension was making the throttle stick open) but cant see how it goes through to the pedal. Seems like a rubber bung is stopping me getting any slack to unhook from the pedal. Any ideas you two? or anyone with renault training.

Update and bump!

The cable is now off and got one on order for tommorow.
To get the cable out i basically pulled as hard as i could from the engine end and it came flying out. The white plastic bit that attaches to the pedal came off but is undamaged hopefully the new cable comes with new clip and white plastic bit? The bung is still there and i can imagine getting the new cable in is a right b**ch. Any ideas on how to make the bonnet close the cable for that apears to be doing bugger all and the latch that locks the bonnet in position when you press it with a screwdriver goes all the way down but doesnt click in position help its frustrating.

is the release cable/handle free? eg-not stuck and holding the catch open slightly so not allowing it to lock in place when you shut the bonnet. have you lubricated the catch mechanism?

Thanks for the replies chaps

I have taken the locking mechanism off and it works fine clicks closed then when you manually pull the metal tag accross it clicks open therefore the problem must lie with the cable surely? I think something must have happend jamming both cables. I removed the excalerator cable and stripped it down to find the problem. I thought that the very thin stranded core should move backwards and forwards in the white plastic sheath which inturn is surrounded by armoured cable and sponge/rubber coating. However this was jammed solid i finally got the whole centre core out by cutting one end off and pulling hard with the pliars. I then tried to thread the wire back through the insulation and it gets to the same point from both ends and stops dead so there must be a blockage?

The bonnet catch cable is a little more difficult as i cant get it out the end appears to be molded onto the leaver insied the car does this come with the cable when you buy a new part.

What i cant understand is why both should go on the same day?

is your exhaust manifold heat sheild in place? bonnet cables come with the release lever attached.

Ah no the heat shield fell off, is that what caused it i bet its melted the bastid plastic tube f**k it makes sense now coz i was giving it death racing a crx just before. Thanks for letting me know about the bonnet catch cable i bet this has melted aswell its good that the bonnet cable is attached to the lever though

lol, no probs got the new throttle cable in but it was a real b**ch fitting the rubber grommet in the bulkhead, how do you mechanics do it? had to get the girlfriend to push it through as shes got skinnier hands i couldnt get my hand past the reservoir I nearly ended up taking out the arch liner. It seems to actually be better power delivery now i have adjusted it as per the haynes manual and it goes like stink. There is no noticable step in the throttle anymore either i though this was the second inlet flap opening up but its just smooth throttle response now. I might make a fancy heat shield out of stainless at work will this work or be too conductive? Icould always insulat the back with foam.

yes had that a few times where the heatsheilds missing and caused the outer cable casing to melt around the centre cable causing them to seize or snap.
