F7R and NDO gearbox

can anyone tell me what would be involved in getting the NDO from a 225 fit onto an F7R engine?

ive done a search and ive seen the NDO has a bigger bellhousing so im guessing some sort of adapter plate? anything else?

dont worry about it fitting in a car theres enough room in the car im putting it in, i just want a more reliable gearbox for a turbocharged F7R

cheers

If your gonna go to the ball ache of fitting an NDO gearbox you might as well go the whole hog and fit the F4RT to go with it.

not gonna happen im affraid mate. engine has already been built and run in minus the turbo. cant sell up now after all the work and money ive put into it.

if i had known more back when i started this project i probably would have gone F4RT in the first place :(

i have 4 already B-)

i just dont want to be changing boxes every week/month/year. it will get me down in the end

bruce is looking at strengthening a jc5 that he will need testing and ive put my name forward to help him lol. but i think in the end im gonna want to have a stronger 6 speed box :p

He can look at strengthening it all he likes. In the end the stronger internals will pass on the stress to the next weakspot in the assembly which is the casting... as seen when using gripper diffs and Avanti internals. In short you're either gonna be looking at a serious H pattern or sequential gearbox by Hewlands (or similar) or, if the NDO is your thing (Why I don't know as it'll handle the torque but the synchros will die as they do in every Laguna II, Megane II, Traffic/Master, Etc) then you will need to have hte block re-drilled to accept it... possibly need the flywheel and clutch setup to (?)

EDIT: I also think the driveshafts are different to... enjoy making those fit the hubs of your choice.

he mentioned machining strengthened steel to the casting to improve the castings strength. and some internal modifications.

driveshafts afre not a problem, theres a gut in neath who can build me custom shafts on the cheap and as for clutch and flywheel im sure i could muster something up, even if it means having a new one machined.

how often do the ndo boxes eat synchros then? surely theyre mor reliable than the JC5's?

i have a spare block to drill, just need the box to check lol but id like as much info as possible beforehand. like is the crank position sensor in the same place etc?

LOL - Nope!

Ask just about any Renault/Vauxhall/Nissan owner that has a 6 speed unit in their van/car if it whines in 1st-3rd and most will say yes. The JB/JC series boxes are great until they have torque forced thru them. The NDO's are the same which is why the DCi's and RS's eat them up and a rebuild can cost anywhere from £600-1200 as the castings can also get damaged on them. I did MadMatt's grandparents unit for him on their Laguna II on the cheap (It only whined/crunched in 3rd-5th) and still that bill still came in at over £850 but that was warranted.

The NDO gearbox is not fitted to Lagunas or vans. Its fitted to the Meganes including the DCI models except the 1.5. The six speed unit your refering to is as you correctly stated plagued with problems, hense the intoduction of the NDO which i think is an old Nissan gearbox.

NDO is a 6 speed off a megane 225... so that would fit into the category mick is talkign about. gunas and other renaults have them too, been looking into it.

so mick your saying renault dont actually make a good gearbox lol?

Not all 6 speed gearboxes are the same! The NDO fits specific Meganes and Megane diesels, The Vans, Lagunas (2 and 3) and the rest use a PK series 6 speed which is rubbish! All the J series boxes were fitted to older Renaults and obviously small modern renault hatches such as Clios.

Vag box fits better then. Renault box is wider iirc? 2shaft box? Vag is a 3 shaft so is shorter but fatter

Lol I agree. But given the choice I personally think the vag would be the better choice

cant see why, a jc5 is a 2 shaft box, another gear doesn't need to make the box wider as the 6 gear would be on the other shaft, beside nr 5 and i have no problem cutting a little in the car. It feels better with a renault box :p and it encourage me to do a ND0 conversion as everybody say it doesn't work, but haven't tried ??

As its been said, if your goi through the effort of changing gearboxes then why bother with something that is just as weak as the one your changing?

Only going off what I was told when I considered the ndo box. I would have quite happily have kept my box Renault but everyone said there's no point picking another Renault box as they're all as bad as each other.

Theres a reason I went for the vag box over the ndo one. It wasn't through lack of research and just picking the hardest route. I went off the opinions of everyone on here

I believed specialists. And I had a vag box hanging about that I could use, it was easier to use that than sell it to fund an ndo box.

Ah i didnt see you were from Sweden lol. Most of cliosport seem to be afraid of using telephones.

I would imagine Helix can custom make any clutch you provide a drawing/spec/diagram for. Might be best to email them instead to start with.
