Fabricated induction.

  BMW M4; S1000 RR
Anyone done this before ??

I fancy something new to do when not working. Has anyone successfully built their own induction kit ?

The fact the car is a DCi makes it slightly less pointless as there are a handful of kits for the car, and all leave the intake behind the engine, making air feeds a bit tricky. I would like to route it down and have 2 air scoops in the lower grill.

Any tips ? (don't bother would be appreciated with a reason lol)

Have you got a picture of the engine bay?

I havent built my own induction kit but have relocated an open filter on my 182. You could use pipework to position the filter somewhere cooler or build something like the hillpower 'semi' enclosed filter setup.

What were you thinking of making it out of?

Heres mine you can buy alu pipe and various bends of silicone pipe to position it somewhere else-

Looks good mate, I would probably buy the filter section as a ready made part, as I really can be doing without that bit lol.

I believe the K&N apollo comes as a single piece does it not.

The thing with the DCI, is that the air intake to the engine is at the BACK of the engine bay rather than the side, so the box is above the engine itself.

I might play around with some thermometres to get an idea of whether over the top, or round the side of the engine would be better. I shall use some heat sheild too. Then use heat shielded pipe work and route the filter to a similar location as the ones you've kindly pictured.

The idea being get more air in there than the normal unit does, which from the looks of it when I took it apart earlier, won't be too hard !!:dead: Even a few extra mm of diameter will increase the air intake by a fair few percent.
