Failed ABS ECU

My Clio 182 traction control and serv light are both on, had it on the renault diagnostics software (also confirmed by an independent garage) and the ABS ECU has failed. Renault are quoting £1200 for a new unit!!!

Has anyone had a similar failure, some places say they can repair the unit at a much reduced cost, anyone ever managed to source a new unit or get theirs repaired?

Any advice appreciated.

sounds odd, not something thats common, check water hasn't found its way into the connector.

Fault displayed was a multiplex fault which they attributed to the ABS ECU failure. The lights go out over night and then after drving for 20 mins the car goes very sluggish for a few seconds then the lights reappear and the engine springs back to life again but the idle is then very lumpy at 1500rpm rather than the usual 900ish.
