Failed M.O.T :(

Car  RB + LY 182 FF
the garage said the car failed its mot on emmissions? is that a big problem? i dont know too much about emmissions. he said it will be ready tue eve :(

Mine only just past on the emissions last time, bought a yozzasport exhaust and he said it was nearly 0 on CO2!! Could try that. lol

Think it is quite a major thing, usually means a sensor is broke i think.

when i rang to see how it was getting on they said they was just getting the car connected up.. so they will connect it to a comp and find the problem from there?

Is it a expensive job?

it will prob be a lambda, they will find the fault on the clip.

will read upstream oxygen sensor or exhaust gas lambda.

think there around £100 for the lambda plus labour plus the clip check

so £200 at a guess

I dont really understand how it could be the sensor. Mine has been bust for ages and passed fine.

Surely they just measure the gases as they come out the exhaust. How does the sensor alter emissions ?

Im not being cocky, i really dont know.

Toxic fume warning light usually comes on if the lambda are fecked, what are they actaully doing to the car?

Im not being c**ky, i really dont know.

Im sure the upstream o2 sensor does affect the ECU and therefore fuelling.

downstream does not affect it at all.

I see, so the 1st sensor think its the engines fault and alters ecu/fueling whereas the 2nd sensor is after the cat and just presumes the cat is bust. That'll be why mine is fine then as its the 2nd sensor.

Cheers
