Paying monthly works out as a bigger premium though doesn't it? Why should he have to pay for Greenlight's incompetence?

I would investigate getting temporary insurance, although i would probably just do what edde has said!

I'm gonna get cover for 2 - 3 days from DayInsure just to cover xmas - 27th/28th, to be on the safe side.

For the sake of 30 quid I'd rather be insured. Maybe I could try and claim it back from Greenlight if they do decide to help me.

it does work out more but you can canx a policy in 14days and get a full refund.

then he can sort out greenlight in the meantime and go with them again it just to get insurance over xmas

Not quite a full refund, you'll still have to pay for the days you were covered work out pro-rota from the yearly figure, but without any cancellation charges etc, so yer basically you don't loose anything.

My mate used to work in insurance, I don't know if this is correct but I was told that if you are in possesion of an insurance certificate by law you were covered for at least any damage caused by you to a third party?
I could be wrong though.

Hope you get this mess sorted out I am sure its the last thing you need close to bah Humbug season!

Wouldnt say anything bad about them, they'll threaten legal action if you do.

According to them expressing a negative comment can damage their company, therefore, you can be sued!

surely this is the insurance section of the forum and hes entitled to tell us his experience with them afterall insurance is an important matter.

Its alright to say how low their quote is but out of order to say how youve been treated.

Not yet.

I'm on the phone atm to the policy issuers to try and get something sorted. You shouldn't really ring them, as they don't deal with the general public... but its xmas and I have a good case so I thought I'd try my luck. Have had it escalated twice now and waiting on hold for a resolution atm..

Edit: Didn't get far with them, guess I'll have to get temp cover until Greenlight decide to come back from holiday.

Might be worth PM'ing him, I know it's Christmas so he might not even come online to check it (don't blame him) but from threads in the past he certainly seems to try and be helpful when there is a genuine mistake.

don't worry - sounds like an auto letter (as has already been mentioned) the fact that they haven't refunded the money tells me this. They'd loose their FSA license over something like this if they didn't give you the money back after cancelling the policy.

Still leaves me completely in the s**t though, I've had to lay out extra money because of their odd holiday arrangements.

  ST on the way...
Did you send your docs to them by recorded delivery?

I was told by the RAC that the only person that can legally cancel a policy is the policyholder.

Nope I didn't, just the envelope they gave me (Prepaid 1st class).

you're probably not in the s**t though - you will be covered by them, they are probably not even aware that this letter has gone out.

As they have your money the agreement is still in place - the insurance ombudsman would honour it. If they'd refunded you money then you wouldn't be covered. But they haven't. So you are - ignore the letter till they re-open.

Have you spoken to the claim helpline - i know it's run by another company but their system will tell them if you're insured - check with them.

Apparently they haven't received them yet... will give them a ring later on when the post arrives to see if they even turn up.

What is it with insurance companies being a complete void as far as the Royal Mail is concerned?

Just to confirm the Documents have been received mate.

The reason we had to issue the cancellation letter is that we only insure drivers with at least 1 years NCB.....otherwise we could of just written to you asking for you pay the extra for zero ncb temporarily to keep cover in force and then refund it once the NCB proof was received.

Unfortunatley the insurer normally only give us 30 days to get the proof of NCB to them. We managed to get them to extend it on this case an extra 4 days but this meant the cancelltion letter was issued for 25th December. This a computer driven diary letter so i apologise if it caused any worries over christmas.

We are not open on the 25th or 26th December so would not of been here to process the cancellation. As the documents were here this morning we did not cancel the policy and cover can continue as normal.

We will be able to post your full insurance certificate to you within the next couple of days once we have processed the documents you sent.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards
Neil

Just to confirm the delay was caused by his prior insurer taking over 3 weeks to send him NCB proof and we have not done anything wrong....I understand that it was a tad heartless (excluse = the computer doesn't have a heart ;)) to send the letter cancelling the policy on christmas day but its a computorised diary system that runs on day allowances....It doesn't take into account that its christmas day.

It should of been programmed to inact the cancellation date after the christmas break so it can be addressed.

If a staff member had of actually manually issued the letter we would of spotted it was Christmas day and could of sorted a necessary amendent.

Best Regards
Neil
