FAO : owners of Black gold cars

  An orange one
Im getting extremely pissed with this colour.. I know black cars are hardest to avoid marking etc..but have renault deliberately made this paint soft?

I totally pamper my vee..using finest products, washmits...the best microfibre towels and high quality waxes etc...and the swirls and cuts in the paint..just keep coming more and more..

my sister has a black mk4 golf...treats it like a total workhorse..uses s**t soap, crap sponge that lies on the ground most of the time, and a convential hand towel to dry it...and her car hardly marks at all!

pissing me off big time now! should have got titanium! :(

how did you know???!

My last car was black. I've vowed never to buy a black car again. EVER.
Its just a pointless process....

clean, leave it for 10 minutes, dust, swirls.

week later,

clean, leave it for ten minutes, then dust, swirls.

Repeat until completely jacked off with it and sell for another car.

The paint is odd, marks really easily but takes some effort to correct. It is not soft compared to other paints I have woprked on, just marks easily as hell.

VW Black is hard, I have machine polished a Black R32 for a neighbour a few times now and despite it being car washed each week it does not get that marked.

Looks better than boring silver though ;)

Most marks I have where drying inflicted, get an Aquagleam so you don't have to dry. Also even with light dust don't QD give it a full wash.

Colin - same here m8. The paintwork on my previous Punto (a Fiat, ffs! ;) ) is a work of art, compared to my BG 182.

Is has to be the black gold colour. Both of Jain's Clios were a shining pinnacle of shinyness compared to mine.

P.S. I've got a PC on the way - I'll let you know how it goes!

Rich is the Aquagleam a similar concept to the Flash car wash kit that has a setting to spray filtered water for drying??

I have one of these and used to use it just for drying only on my old c2 VTS, it worked a treat and dried so well. Ever since getting the 182 though and reading in this forum, I've seen that everyone uses quality drying towels etc. This put me off using the flash filtered water.

I'd be more than happy to start using it again though as it is really quick and avoids using any pressure to dry the car with towels etc. Therefore reducing marring.

cheers

Alan

I've owned a couple of black cars...wouldn't buy another though as they are a real nightmare to look after

Same principle as the Flash thing yes. The less you have to touch the paint ther better.

I'd never get a black car after seeing my boyfriends and having washed that. The paints bad on it anyway, but even when it looks like we've done a good job, get it in the sunlight and there's swirls and smears all over it!!

Ive never cleaned my car properly since i bought it.

The paint was mashed (or so i thought)
Spent a few hours on it at the weekend and its come up lovely.

But it does mark badly.

You non Black Gold owners don't know what it is like with your easy to keep clean colours ;)

  Deja vu 182
I learnt my lesson using supermarket jet wash with brush , looks like i cleaned it with a brillo pad . hopefully will find someone to pc it for me .

I know the feeling and its a shame because its such a great colour when properly cleaned.

I think I'll avoid it for my next motor :)

  Tangoed Works
its the most rewarding colour to have, as the result is only as good as the love you have for your car.

Indeed sir...

I have a few marks on mine from drying, even 'pat drying' can leave some marks here and there...tho i have a porter cable so its not such a big deal for me..

My car has only been pc'd once, that was back in may last year jus before FCS, it'll be pc'd again before summer then maybe some light defect removal before winter...black gold is a pain but none of the other colours on the 182 come close when clean...

I had a Pearl Black 1.2 before I got the Trophy... was an absolute nightmare and I vowed never to have a black car again either, not least because of keeping it clean but also because of how bloody hot it gets in the summer, to the point you can barely sit in it and you can't touch anything without frying your hands!

I'll have to get you to PC the Trophy some time Rich :)
