FAO people running Circa 190-200bhp.

  Italian 3.2 V6
Since You'v been running Circa 195bhp, How much quicker is it now from when it was standard? Is it 225, FRS (mk1), S3 (mk1), 147GTA pace? (al. At their std form of course!)

Any vids which compare?

1/4 times of before (Std) and after..?

What have you been up against?

Does the car pull alot better!? Have the grunt it should?

Just to get an idea If cams etc are actually worthy. As I don't want to get rid of my 182 but want to be quicker and would love to cam my LY at some point this year. Keep playing with the idea of doing it!!

Jamie - this is very true ;)

Duck - yea I spied this yesterday! Just hope there not optimistic about the new cams. If they produce what there meant to! Them and the JMS manifold would be a promising buy I'd imagin!

Just want to know how much quicker realisticly they make the 1*2's go against the more powerful hot hatches, As ino it's not all about the peak figure but much more how the power is delivered..

PSJ.

My standard 1*2 engine and 810kg in weight was a tad quicker than a 147GTA, not much in it though. Same with the original S3 really, although I didnt know the person, so had no idea if it was standard or not - he gave up at silly speeds, was equal-ish upto then.

That was taking into account my car was 210bhp/tonne...you would need a fair amount over 200bhp if the 1*2 was standard weight (1050kg+) to compare it to the results above, or have around 195-200bhp and have lost some weight from the car to bring it somewhere under a ton..

  B/G 182 + PH1 Track
Well, if youve still got a full interior in and then you can the car it still wont be as quick as a 225. It will be slightly faster will you feel the full benefit on the road...

Personally, i wouldnt bother on road car.

Our ITBd car feels quick and i imagine it will be very close to my brothers 300HP MK 1 Focus RS, but our track car is completely stripped so has very good power to weight.
But on the road the turbo power and torque of the focus is much more practical.

Dont want to put you off the idea and i will be interested to see what freds cams produces and the JMS intake system.

But being boring do a track day (or even attend one and blag a passenger ride) and you will see how much more your 182 has to give on the road.

best quarter time iv done in my 182 is a 15.1. thats with 2 of us in it. just nosed it past a megane 225 and a corsa vxr. no idea what power its got tho

If you want it to be quicker you're not using the right type of roads. Only time I find my RS needing is 4th on a country road. Do you do alot of drag racing then?

Mine has always been a 'quick one' and my last two RR days on separate rollers have both seen over 190bhp (not that I expect that to be true but 6 months apart and both within a couple of bhp and lb/ft seemed to be consistant) but my best comparison was with Matt Wills trophy at Oulton Park. Think his was mapped/exhaust and a few other mods (carbon bonnet and tailgate with poly window) and coming off the 1st chicane after the Shell hairpin if you know it... both exitted the chicane at roughly the same speed, accelerating up the hill and I came past before the peak on the straight. Afterwards we chatted and he mentioned that he should have dropped his to 2nd gear as well...but I had left mine in third too! Probably only over a few hundred metres but it was a fair bit quicker in that gear alone

Slightly more power and less weight would make a definate difference especially higher up the gears

mine in 4th as an example on a flat stretch with the old limiter..pulls pretty much like this past 120 in 4th with higher limiter and also pulls nicely in 5th where others I have seen die after 110

Ideally the 200Bhp per ton would be nice but I'd be happy with 180-190ish as I wouldn't want to strip the car much tbh as I would like it to be practicle still.

Iv been against my cuzins 225 on the motorway just rolling start (obv) at 50 then Gunning it and the 225 pulled away easy every time but that's obv due to the torque (torque wins races is his famous saying lol) had a good play with a FRS on Sunday (tuned to circa 240bhp) and it wasn't getting away.. Even spoke to the lad and he was well impressed with my 182 :) my cars std barr a BMC filter (I think that was down to driving tho tbh)

So aslong as the country pace is up 2 scratch with the bigger hatches I'd be happy as that's were the ClioRS's shine so if cams got me on barr with the bigger hatches in that department I'd be more than happy tbh :)

no don't really do 1/4 miles but there's a local event that comes up every year so I always just run my car on there to see what I can get, nothing seriouse but it gives a good indication to what's good comp and to see how well the car goes.

I just think maby cams might just give the 182 the edge it needs to play with the big boys on the roads it was made for! And the roads I love driving on!

Even for cams and the gains you get I think it's too much money. By the time you've bought them, fitted and mapped it must be close to 2k.The 182 must be worth 6.5 and with that further 2k you could get something like a 225, FRS (cheap one) or save a little more for an R26. All those won't be alot quicker than the Clio but at least £500 will transform one of those.

Catcams (cams only) £752 + VAT
Pulleys £275
Mapping £400
Fitting £500

Total £1927

Fitting is subjective Jamie, mine were fitted for £60...

Cams + fitting + Mapping = £1k for me.

I wouldn't trust anyone other than a reputable firm fitting my cams and apart from the known mappers I don't know where else to get it mapped from. I could see the mapping and fitting costing a very substantial amount. I was quoted near £2k for the above, well it did have headwork also.

Cams - £550 (£880 new)

Fitting - Birchdown (same time as Cambelt service - hence the price).

Mapping - RS Tuning, price was £445 but he had an offer on so I got it for about £395 I think.

So in reality if the cams weren't second hand and you include fitting, which I can see you're treating as a sunk cost it's about what I said. (£880, £530, £395 = £1,805).

Certainly not cheap!

How are you finding yours Darren? Sharpened up the car? How is the idle?

ill fit em
TDF for a remap
car will be epic :D

F4R ar fully floating you tool

same same jamie, you use stock cam pullies on all F4R engines unless you're going mental with the spec

Yeah I was going to say, pulleys weren't needed.

As I said to Piers some time ago, if he has the Cams fitted at the same time as a cambelt service then this obviously keeps the costs down. I doubt I would have 'on spec' had them fitted as it would have made it too expensive for me.

Car feels very different, much more lively and more driveable. Idle isn't great, but about the same as any 182 on a cold winters morning.
Advantages far outweigh the lumpy idle in my eyes anyway :)

Whats the story with cambelts and cams?

Do they not need replacing if they are slightly too old?

  Italian 3.2 V6
No not had car RR'd yet.

Will see what comes of the JMS inlet and Freds Frog Cams ;) see what these baby can produce, you never know one of them alone could get what I'm after for cheaper!

But yess all can be done within 1k (cam n map wise) with the help of my main man hutchie ;)

Aslong as it would make the 182 keep up with the hotter hatches id be happy as I love my 182 ;) although an Mk1 FRS would be nice but I think I'd miss my LY tooo much!

personally piers i think your car wants a remap desperately. it seems a little limp wristed below 5.5k.
i mean it goes alright but afink your old flamer has the legs on it if im honest.
