FAO people with smaller front numberplates

  FF RB 182
As above, those of you with smaller numberplates on the front (mk2 ph2s mostly I think), where did you get them from, and are they road legal?

  PH-Lamer 1.4 16v
i thought they were legal if you kept the lettering the same size and spacing, but got rid of the excess plate round the outside

Just seen that thread, fella says he's not bothered, £30 fine is sod all. Just want's to know where from.

i got pulled for having a 3/4 plate, they took photographic evidence, sent me on a 3hr driver improvement course at a local fire station and warned me that they had marked the car and if they see me running with an illegal plate again they would have my private plate revoked by the dvla and fine me :(

his car doesn't get driven a lot. Maybe twice a week and then its only few miles.

his plate aint private.

would just end up with a fine and then points if caught again then

Says if he was caught he'd take it off and just use it for shows. TBH I don't see why there needs to be so much space around them. It's better than sticking them in the windscreen like a lot of the euro lot do.

i had mine for around 3 years with no probs, just luck of the drawer really, i had traffic cops come over to look at the car when i was parked up in services and they werent bothered about the plate, just took one bored copper to pull me one day :(

really like the look of the smaller plates:D

Aye, I know people are trying to help saying they're illegal, but Gaz is one of those people who really couldn't care less. I was curious whether they were legal.

They do look better, he hates his front plate hanging so far down over the front mesh.

I'm just going to trim my number plate a little bit. Hopefully it wont be too obvious to the old bill. but enough to make it look better :)

It was me who got pulled for it:( Didn't get fined but had to get a vehicle defect form stamped/ sent away. Was also told that my car is now marked, and if caught again running a small plate, photos will be taken and the DVLA will become involved!!:(

As for trimming the plate down, that won't work either as you will be trimming off the BS mark and the plate maker (usually found on the bottom)

I wouldn't bother. I thought I'd be ok living in Devon- hardly ever see a copper- how wrong I was.

  More poke than viagr
i had a small plate on my car since i started driving and havn't been pulled yet (fingers crossed).

the smaller front plates look so much better IMO. Get one!

Only the keenest of police would notice IMO.

Think i saw your plate hung up at birchdown the other week :)

I got pulled in Milton Keynes after driving for over a year with a 1/2 size plate, Got fined and they also marked the car and said if i was seen again, they would involve Dvla and not only revoke the plate, they can issue a Q plate !!!!

So i would suggest keep the lettering spaced and sized correct, just loose some backing...........Or dont go to Milton Keynes !

Well mine was noticed by a copper driving the other way!! He noticed the lack of border around the top and bottom.

Sounds like he was quite bored, I want to do what whatisjustis has done.

Mega weeeee!

Some love it, most hate it!

I think its looks a bit odd since it has a bigger recess, but wouldn't care if I had a Vee. Lovely colour too!

I wouldnt mind one of the recessed ones, and tbh if you see a copper coming the other way and you see him look at you, just take some back roads and loose him!

whatisjustis - Where did you get yours from? Or did you just cut to fit?

Nick
