Farewell my beloved V6

warranty work beckons for the v6 .. clutch is slipping like a biatch, dealers reckon 2 days .. ill put money on a minimum of 2 weeks!! engine out job .. so that means itll not be the same when it comes out  heres hopin

engine out for a clutch? ive spent some time under mine now forseeing future repairs and i dont see that the engine has to be removed, although i may be wrong, and ive never done one.

will they replace the clutch under warranty? i thought it was a wear and tear part.

my car is in having a new gbox at 4600 miles, so maybe my engine is coming out too??

seriously? Do some of these monkey dealers know what their doing with the mid engined V6?

Ive never been in for a service or warrenty work at Renault yet (although my cups drivers side window is a tad bumpy) but my aunts 1.4 has had some awful treatment during warrenty work.

Citroen when I had my VTR werent bad they were just a con on their prices. £165 for a 1 year service that was basically just an oil change!

Dont get me started on the cowboys at vauxhall!!! - cant imagine them fixing a Holden V8

well once my warranty expires ill be doing all work myself.

ive tried two dealers now and they seem to know nothing about the v6.

id much prefer to do my own work .. then i know itd be done by proper monkey !! ;)

really really not looking forward to this .. i guess that when the work IS completed them monkeys will be tearing the ass out of it .. " just a test drive to make sure its ok SIR !!"

yes the test drive is a worrying factor.

i have my own business working on fiat coupes, so i will do all my V6 work and of the highest standard.

have they approved the clutch change under warranty?

they booked it in under warranty .. but they really better not come back wanting me to pay .. cos basically i aint . Renault just refused another warranty claim with a side pod that got ripped off by severe weather ( wind and rain last week down the mway) beleive it or not £834 to replace the tiny 10 quid silver plastic side intake pod ,all this and i have only owned the thing for 1 week ! (bought s/h) .. unhappy and very grumpy !!!

if anyone can make me a little happier by letting me know where i can get one cheaper i will cheer up a bit !!

i have no idea mate.

the car decided it wouldnt go into 2nd, just crunching when trying. renault technical are trying to decide if they will replace or strip the box.

i really dont know the cause though, i look after my cars, and im not harsh on the box at all.

just unlucky i guess. still, under warranty so sod it.

shame that, id hate it. esp with the engine in the back covered in all that nice material, mind id be same at a standard service, in fact I am the same. hate going to dealers, even wondering if they are going to press the bonnet shut and dent it or drop it shut, and they always over inflate my tyres. I make sure its immaculate when it goes in that way they prob look after it more, but it always comes back more dirty.

Your are supposed to take them off and clean them out on a regular basis. I found this messed up the mesh and they seldom went back on properly.

Howd u do that James? I looked and the mesh is not easy to get past? I shined a torch in there (lol) to see if they need cleaning out... but its pretty clean anyways.. but still interested in how they come off without bending the mesh?

hows everyones V6 exhausts reading the reports in the long term fleet cars in mags some went well rusty on MK1 V6s?

VEE6 - I had a misfiring cylinder on my car, 5th one... And renault got the part in the next day and fixed it as good as new... No hassle at all, and only done a mile or so in it to make sure everything is ok, ( unlike the 10/20 they sumtimes do to take the piss )

And liam 182 - Yes mine is going rusty, on the look for a new one though

While I was at Renault once I was an 18 year old Chav mechanic take a customers Cup and blast the crap out of it from cold!

Also my aunts 1.4 picked up about 40 miles and was covered in mud when she got it back. They said it hadnt been anywhere and she was a liar! Even though her daughter had only washed in a day before it went in!

Couldnt begin to imagine what some of these places would do to a V6 on a roadtest.

They wouldnt do f#ck all to mine, because Ill take a day of work and sit outside the workshop while they work on it.

Carbon side pods from Nology in the states are cheaper!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the info guys .. i think the NOLOGY worked out at 285 quid for the pair .. so if i have to i WILL be getting them from there!!

I have a friend who works for Aston Martin and seeing as lots of the people who designed the V6 now work for them (due to TWR going down the sh1tpan ) i have managed to pull a favour from Dieppe where the V6 is made .. supposidly there is a part winging its way pour moi and its comin gratis !! so if it does arrive then its 2 fingers to renault and the arse who decided that they wouldnt replace it under warranty!! if it doesnt turn up then NOLOGY here i come !!

Go to a Renault dealer with an observation room.

Settle down and watch every move they make.

Thats what id do anyway.

Cheers.

are the air-intakes the same on Mk1/2?
i beleive so !!

how can those mofos charge such a friggin astronomical amount, i have heard of over pricing to deter owners of lesser(forgive me) models from getting hold of kits to immitate the real thing but 834 quid is beyond daft !!

car went in .. by the end of the day they had managed to get the G/box out ( pleasant surprise !!) they said the clutch plate was fukked but.... so was the flywheel , apparantely the tech had a lump of metal from the F/W in his hand !! eeek

unsurprisingly the car will have to stay in bits for 2 weeks as the flywheel is n back order .. unhappy but at least its a warranty job !

Hi Liam..............on the exhaust...............they do a Stainless Steel one as an option the previous owner of my car had one fitted for the same reason ie it was looking a bit rusty, only problem is its £872 + vat...................and still all nice and shiny after 18months.

Cya Stuart

PS the supptying dealer for the exhaust was SMC in Woking.

I thought they were all Stainless Steel? I wondered why so many people were complaining of rust, etc! Luckily my one looks like new still as u can see from the pics I posted on page 1. Bit pricey, but worth it IMO.

V6ing how does yours stay so clean and bright cause mild steel gathers surface rust very quickly........................there isnt anything wrong with it..........it just looks abit off and I havent seen one that is clean like yours.

... and while were on the subject, can you get the plastic grilles out so you can get at the exhaust to clean it?

Easiest way Mike is just to get the Stainless Steel job......................just like MINE:D

Im still puzzled though as to how V6ing manages to keep his soooo clean and shiny...................even if he does clean it mild steel gathers surface rust and thats just the way it is eh:confused:

Even stainless needs a good polish quite frequently though - ok it doesnt rust but it does go dull. Hopefully its not too difficult to get at...
