Fault reader for Airbag ECU

  Clio 172 (CUP)
Can someone help me out before I loss my mind sifting through the previous posts regarding the airbag and SERV light.

Is there a cheap (priven) device that can interrogate the airbag ECU for fault code without me having to have access to CLIP? Resetting the codes would be a bonus, but right now I want to be able to find the point of failure in the system since I have removed my front seats and steering wheel and replacing with resistors as per the guide.

The cheap £10 eBay bluetootb devices are unable to communicate with the airbag ECU I believe.

Thanks

Clip is best as you can disable certain airbags. I believe you can reset the ecu after an airbag going off too.

If you have an airbag problem, once rectified, i'm pretty sure it should reset with the ignition off and on.

I have an Autel code reader for abs, airbag and engine faults that cost £140 and has been really useful on clios! But it doesn't like to talk to ab ecu's. Think this may be the cheapest reader?.

If you're good with a multimeter, i have the pin outs for the airbag ecu so you can check each circuit for the correct reading-worked well for me before i bought the autel.

Thanks, yes I'm fairly experienced with a multimeter so a pinout would be much appreciated, its only so I can identify the point of failure before investing into more equipment

  Many.
If you're at the rolling road day, I'll happily plug it in then. Although thats nearly a month in the future!

Thanks for the offers, much appreciated, but the car is currently SORN while I'm working on it. But the good news is that I found and fixed the problem.

Thanks to the pin out diagram that ianboom kindly provided and a little time and patience, I was able to pin point the location of the fault as being between then rear block connector of the squib (?), and one of the steering wheel airbag connectors coming out of the front. It is somewhere on the internal ribbon cable/connector of the unit and therefore non-serviceable as it looks like a sealed unit. Anyway, doesn't matter as I just added the resistors to the rear block connector, taped it up and left it unconnected. As soon as switched the ignition on the lights indeed did reset and stay off as they should.

Result!

Thanks again for the support

Glad it helped.
As you found, it's a bit of a fiddle, but if you have some electrical knowledge and know how to use a multimeter, it's quite easy and a lot cheaper than taking it to Renault.

Any chance I could get a copy of the pin out please.
im having airbag issues and won't be buying clip software for a while yet.
Thankyou
