Ok, when I let my clutch up to biting point you can hear a sort of scraping sound, hard to explain really, the engine running fine its just when you let the pedal up to bite you can hear it, any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Im not sure wot you mean buy scraping noise, but if its all driving and pulling ok I shouldnt worry about it, mine makes some strange noises now and again and so does a friends brand new 197.

Its just a renault thing.

Think mine makes the same noise you're talking about. Been doing it for a few months now. Still seems to drive fine and stand up to regular abuse so I'm not worried really. Clutch is definately not slipping.

Mine also creaks when it gets hot (been doing so for 6 months now) - pretty sure thats due to the cable. I expect the two are related.

hey, yeh it sounds to me like the release bearing is beginning to go, was just wondering if any of yas would be able to confirm. Its only making it when releasing the clutch out to bite. and when changeing gear. It sounds like the clutch slipping but it isnt. Confusing really, maybe stick a clutch and release bearing in it next week.

I only hear the scraping noise when pulling away from lights etc. Not once I'm on the move. But thats probably because it only happens when hovering around the biting point.

The first time the clutch creaked was when I got stuck in stop start traffic for a while in warm weather. The car got hot enough to trigger the fans, the first and only time this has happened. I assume it is heat that has caused this problem. Now it always does it when the car is hot.

I have an identical creaking with mine. Does it when the car is warm and the clutch has seen traffic jam action.
Just one of those things.

Yep. Has'nt effected the operation so I'm not too fussed. When I did some research before someone said it can be cured by changing the cable IRRC but may well return after a while.

took it out for a run there, you cant really hear the noise when changing through gears, only when starting of. though if you sit on the bite long enough you can start and smell a burning smell, though clutch doesnt slip
