Mine cuts out they have not fixed it yet.... I just floor it on a slip road and bang it feels like i have hit a rev limiter the engine lights come on.... then it drives normally after but I have to restart to get rid of the light...

if i was going any faster than i was i would have crashed the brakes dont really work all that well with the engine dead

Im having that exact problem with my 1.2 16v. Was happening in my new car & Renault said there was no problem as I couldnt demonstrate it to them. Finally the dealer accepted that there must have been a problem as I wouldnt be in seeing them every day - as much as I like the 172 sitting in their showroom! - so they gave me another new car.

4 months later the same problem has started and dont know if I should go back again. Is there a fix for this problem?

yes an ecu upgrade

When did this upgrade come out? Renault kept trying this with my first car & couldnt fix the problem. Got my new car in October. Was it after this?
