Fibreglass

Basically got a touch up or two to do on my splitter on my car before I sell it.

Ive refurbished my wheels before and they came out like new, my spraying is very good as im patient and dont mind sanding down.

Just a question though, the corner of my splitter has split completely on the corner... so now I need to fix it back to the splitter which remaind attached to my bumper.

Anyone used a fibre glass kit before? Any tips hints? Or any good guides you know off? Ive browsed cliosport guides but no luck.

fibreglass kits are crap mate, very messy.

just get a small tin of resin with the hardener if you need to fibreglass

Mmmmm havent got any pictures off it fallen off, only because its held on with black gaffa tape , so when I take it off, its a b1tch to get back on...

I have this photo:

If you look on the right side (facing photo not cars right) you can see a crack.. well basically from that crack its completely fallen off, as in the corner part

drop bumper off, or just splitter if it comes off seperate, then fibreglass it from the back

grind the crack down at the front and put some in the front, grind that down, skim of filler, prime, paint

if its completely snapped id probably reinforce the back too thinking about it

screw a metal piece accross the back. countersink 2 small screws at the front then grind the heads off if needed, then fibreglass and fill

Ive got the following stuff today.

Matte sheets

Repair it resin (liquid)

Glass Fibre Filla (and in seperate tube hardner)

I mix the filler with the hardner yep? where does the matte sheets and resin come in?

you cut out the sheets to fit at the back of the splitter (but imo theyre s**t and youd be better screwing in a metal plate instead with countersunk screws)

then you rough up the back of the splitter with P40/P80, the liquid should come with some hardener, usually yellow tube, then you mix that up with the liquid in a small cup, then brush down your sheets to the back of the splitter so they get really wet and the liquid covers all of it and overlaps onto the splitter. thatll dry solid, then you do your repair as normal from the front.

grind down the crack slightly so its indented, then mix up your glass fibre filler with a bit of hardener (same ratio as normal filler), then put a skim over the crack, grind/sand that down so its level/slightly indented, then skim of filler over the top

wear some gloves too or your hands will be itching like a mother fucker all night

Thats brill mate, really helpful info... one thing... the resin is liquid and the hardner is a paste... still will mix together will it ?

yep, should have a spreader with it to mix it up

sometimes comes with a brush too to brush your resin onto your sheets

Brill ! It says 100g of resin (but its a liquid) so ill just judge by eye! golf ball amount of resin to a pea size amount of hardner roughly ?

can add a little more if you like as fibreglass can be a pain to dry off sometimes

Going well so far mate.... fibre glass back about 6/7 layers.... fillered front... sanded down once .... re filled and left now for night because im going out on the pi55 early tonight! Roll on tmrw Chuffed so far!

just try not to bend it when you put it back on, definatly need 2 people to hold it level

Really pleased with it now... however... I have applied about 2/3 layers of laquer but still cant get it too shine like the original parts of the bumper. I just tried using some compund on in then as well, made it a hell of a lot smoother! should I re laquer if ive just used compound on it or not ?
