Fiesta Turbo seems quicker!!

  clio williams, Ph1 172

Alright people, can someone give me some advice.

I was havin a bit of fun racin my mates fiesta turbo the other day. I was gonna pass him then he pulled in front of me on the dual carriageway and floored it. I put my foot down too and was pretty much flat out goin through the gears. It was up a fair hill. I was strugglin to keep up, he wasnt exactly pullin away but I couldnt seem to gain on him!!

Whats goin on?? I though Id of been loads quicker. His fiesta has only got a dump valve on it as far as I know and hes runnin on 17s same as me.

My car has a K &N, de cat, powerflow exhaust, power boost valve. Gotta be runnin 150bhp plus?! I think I might need a tune. what you think??

I dont think that lot would make 150Bhp plus. Closer to 140Bhp plus. A decent Fiesta turbo could make more than standard power, so could explain the close race.

Chun.

two things,

alot of FRST are sold as standard when they have actually been chipped, because they are worth more standard, and there certainly aren;t that many standard ones left,

i hate to say it but you wouldnt be getting those sort of power increases from the mods you have done, lets assume its still putting out the same sort of power as standard and the FRST is standard-ish then it would be pretty even anyway,

the F7P lumps dont seem to responde that well to simple mods and need significant internal changes to get any useable increase, i might be wrong of course,

but this is what everyone has found

Clio 16v should be quicker in a straight line on the flat out of the box. But many 16v owners find that due to the poor torque curve, they get beaten up hills.

Well ive heard of valvers producin over 150bhp with them mods anyway.

His cars definately not chipped unless hes lieing. Must be up the hill. My car seems slow to get going bottom end. K&N maybe??

A chipped Fiesta turbo will whip ya ass due to the increase in torque! Even a humble Stage 1 chip generates around 160-170bhp and around 180 lb/ft torque with std T2 turbo/exhaust, etc.

James

* My -other- car is a Fiesta turbo! * :devilish:

Your Valver will take a little while to get going, due to the high power band, as long as you keep it just above 4k itll fly, or just get a willy lump!

I think it may also have been the fact that i was behind him. Reaction times and all that.

Ill have to have him another race. Although hes sellin it soon to get a valver :devilish:

The thing is you never know what has been done to a car previously, esspecialy with Turbos as it is so easy for someone to slightly modify it and it be un-noticed, I have thoughts about my 16v as at a some lights another 16v was next to mine in the wrong lane to go straight over so he was obviously confident, but mine killed it he was not even close, and all I have had done is exhaust air filter and some slight head work?

Clio 16v/19 16v F7P engines are well known to vary in performace - even out of the box. Thats what a R19 tuner I know says - look at tests on the R19 16v: some give 0-60 as low as 7.4, but others make up to 10.0!!

  FRST and 106 GTi

I have driven a fiesta RS Turbo...

you can feel the lack of power above the 5500rpm... T2 at only 0.55bar :( This was tested on 4th gear.

weird is that the car just went over to 7100rpm at 5th gear... 240km/h on the mark.

Never driven a valver, only a willy, so its hard for me to say willy vs rs Turbo which is the fastest.

Now, the best mod is to lump in a T3. :) :) thats the next stage... coming up soon untill the end of this year.

A have beaten a few of my mates escort rsts and i know they are standard, but i dont know about the fiesta, are they any quicker? i know theyve have got a smaller turbo so does that mean theyre quicker 0-60 as there is less lag?

Youd be surprised by the lack of pull that many of the standard Ford turbos have. The Escort RS Turbo is actually slower than the original RS 1600.

With such close power outputs and car size/different gearing etc etc. It would all be down to the driver in that he probably changed gear quicker or held the revs higher when he slotted it into gear, its mainly all to do with how the cars are driven.

For example, you would have thought that a golf 1.8T 4-door boat (0-60 8.5) would be beaten off the mark by a nimble saxo vts (0-60 7.7), that was not the case. I was driving the golf (dads company car) and I did not release my foot from the accelerator through the gear changes, just dipped the clutch and slotted each gear- toasted my friends VTS off the lights EVERY time. Its mostly all down to the driver.

Just think what difference it makes to your acceleration when you add a sequential gear box? what, at least a second off every gear change - so 2 identical cars: one has a sequential, and the other has a normal gear box: sequential wins by far....

Never raced a Festa RS yet, though one was playing the other night but he turned off before the dual carriageway! Had a plank in an unmarked one overtake me on a blind bend in a 30 zone over speed bumps. Most likely a XR2i. Probably braging he beat a valva now! hehe

BTW: ive got a k&n, PBV, full Magnex and De-cat and pushing just over 160bhp. I find it hard to believe but I have the RR graphs! I know the engine has been looked after, and apparently it was one of the faster ones out of the production line?!?!

RR Graph on request :)

  FRST and 106 GTi

I only can say that my mates Fiesta RS Turbo is a 1.8D boss van moded. By this, the car is 100kg lighter (estimation).

Also, its 60mm front and 85mm rear down. Only with KD Gr N backbox.

Me and Louises Williams (163bhp proven) had a little razz down the a127, it can keep with my Fez Turbo (proven 155bhp) but not gain on me, and i couldnt really pull away. - Gives you an idea on performance.

I was informed the clio was wacked off the limiter in each gear:eek:, but i was changing at around 5000 as i treat my car nice :D

So if i was to go to max power of 5700 im sure i could pull away;):D

Cheers Craig. I thought you wouldnt get that sort of power with those mods? Guess some people have been proved wrong. Unless his is just a fast one. Although people often think mine is particularily quick.

  FRST and 106 GTi

last night I went for some (whatever) with my mate and its RS Turbo...

well... I could keep up with him until 4th gear... damn, my RT is powering like a beast on fire...

I would still be smiling if I didnt know that was raining :p, the Fiesta was having real problems when comes to get power on the ground... on 3rd gear it would still burn wheel... damn rain.

netherless... my RT could handle a Fiesta RS Turbo... no one needs to know the road conditions. :p

Who cares 16vs look better and easily out handels any fester. (Just my view of course)

It does vary a lot. Raced a Golf CL of the lights. Due to me not seeing the traffic light change and not giving a few revs before launching was nearly beaten but caught up pretty sharpish.

Easily Whips my mates Chipped 106XSi and also can just beat or is level pegging with a 106 GTi and also Same time in time out agaisnt mates Cav GSi. But get beaten by 306 GTi-6.

Gave a cocky Megane 1.6 16V a good thrashing just to teach a lesson he didnt like it. hehe!

Still love the look and sound, feel of the 16V. Having owned a carbed Nova GTE love it more than that. Had a copper wondering what was under the bonnet. Nothing beats the good old Induction roar!!!

  A SHED!

The 16valer destroys calibras 2.0, as this idiot found out one night trying to race me.hehe.However I found that 106s are quite good at keeping up with my clio.

The 16v/Willy F7R/P units vary a lot in terms of power. Some standard 16vs I know are only midly quick - others make my 171bhp 16v have to work damn hard for a victory!

I saw Marks RS at Trax and its Mint.. Seriously well looked after... His engine bay is like a mirror.

Daz.
