I'm looking to get myself a decent yet cheap enough project.

Other than the engine size and some aesthetic pieces... What are the differences between an ST150 and the 1.6 Zetec S? (Handling and performance related)
I don't intend to keep much of the car stock anyway, I'm just curious.
I'm pretty new to the Fez scene too!


Here's a short list of stuff I can think of what I'd like to do, whether it's a ZS or ST150;

Performance and Handling:
•Milltek Non Res Exhaust
•K&N Cold Air Induction
•K&N Panel Filter
•AP Coilovers
•Uprated Intercooler
•Uprated Brakes (Front and Rear)
•Toyo T1-R Tyres
•Uprated Coils and Leads
•Uprated Injectors and Fuel Rail
•Uprated Spark Plugs
•PowerFlex Mounts (Engine Mount and ARB)
•Uprated ARB and Links

I would love the idea of slapping a supercharger onto it, strip the inside and install a rollcage in the long run.
 
Always better to start with the better spec base car and I bet there's not much difference in the purchase price between the two?

See plenty of ST150's on track and they go pretty well. I'd personal rather something a bit different than the norm like an ingis sport or swift sport both would just be as quick and fun as the Fiesta.

I've got an ST150... I've owned it coming up to 3yrs, great little car. Just keep your eye on the oil level, especially if you're doing trackdays. Mine's been on track a few times and I was surprised how well it performed considering it's relatively standard, with just a RamAir filter.
Don't get T1-R's ffs! They're awful!
I've read that's it's really easy to tune the 2.0 lump, although not cheap.

After owning both Ignis Sport and now the Fiesta, I've compared lap times and I'm considerably faster in the Ford. That wouldn't put me off buying an Ignis or Swift though, they're fantastic cars.

I regularly check my own car anyway so this wouldn't be any different. I am also taking into consideration the insurance, tax, and initial purchase costs of the car.
One thing missing off the list is cosworth 200 cams.
Do You know if both the ST150 and ZS are turbo? Although I doubt it...
What tyres do you recommend... R888's, maybe? I want something sticky but still road legal.
Yea I've heard the same about the engine work especially remaps but if it's worth the power boost after the work being done then I'll pay it.



Or what about a puma?

I'd rather stay with the hatchback scene, otherwise I'd take something similar, if not a puma.
 
Supposedly the ST150 is really restricted with the standard airbox and an open cone aids flow considerably. So that's a cheap mod. Also I know the Mondeo ST bigger callipers and discs are a direct bolt on to the ST150 so another cheap mod there. I'd stick with something like AD08R's or even separate track wheels as R888's and the likes are lethal in the cold, wet conditions.

Are you looking to turbo or asking if they are turbo, as they are N/A from stock?

You can pick an ST up now for as cheap as a Zetec S, so id always go for that, and the base is much better to start from. Just depends on insurance but based on the mods you want to do insurance doesn't sound like an issue.

As above go with R888R/AD08R/AR1 as they were the biggest improvement I made to the car.

Maps dont do much on these at all until you have had the right level of mods on them to get the most from the car.

I wouldn't bother with an intercooler unless your are supercharging or turbo'ing it later down the line

Look into the PAS coolers as these are prone to boiling the fluid on these, really common.

Mondeo brakes are exactly what I'm doing to it.

I'm looking to supercharge it in time. I thought the ST150 would have maybe been turbo but I wasn't sure, like I say, I'm new to the fiesta/ ford scene.
I've seen the PAS Coolers from Mountune though I didn't know they were common for boiling their fluid... I'll definitely throw that purchase on the list!
 
OP have you sat in an ST150 yet? As the seating position is fu#kin awful, just like my Mondeo ST it's way to high and it's like you're sat on the car instead of in it. I'm only 6ft as well.

Have you done many track days in the past? It seems like you're more excited about modifying and styling than the actual driving, which is absolutely fine. One thing I will add though is that modifying your car won't really help make you faster until you've learnt to drive on track properly, so I wouldn't worry too much about sticky tyres until you've got plenty of trackdays under your belt. 888's are actually quite unpredictable until there's some heat in them, so if you're just starting out I'd recommend a good road tyre first.

I've done a few track days, this car isn't like anything I've done before, I want something that looks good as well as being track worthy normally I'd concentrate on one or the other but I want to show this off at shows too but it'll never be used as a daily.

I would say 80% of people on here don't drive clios lol.

Seen any cars of interest?. Always liked the White or the Blue.

My thoughts exactly, at least this way I know what I'm walking in to price wise!

I don't necessarily want anything majorly fast, just something fun to drive at weekends and on the track

I've seen a couple of ST150's both in red but they're not in my distance to pick up. There's plenty of 1.6 ZS's kicking about that are all due belts etc but that'll be getting done regardless of what I get anyway unless recently done.

Don't bother with the mondeo brakes.
You just in the calliper brackets from a focus ST170. With matching discs. 300mm. The calliper on the fiesta and the focus is the same size. It's the bracket is different allowing for the larger discs. All you need to do is re-drill the bolt holes to allow for m12 bolts.

The rears from a focus ST170 can also be fitted on the fiesta as well, however I didn't find the need with mine on track.
Power steering cooler is a must. Even pushed had on the road they can have problems.
Oil cooler is a good idea as well.
Injectors are good for over 200bhp it's the inlet side of the engine that is very restrictive.

As for handing the front hubs from a non ST will fit and give better geo then the ST items.

You won't need bigger injectors or fuel rail.
Mine was MR 200 with no engine mods other the a baffled oil sump, oil cooler and PAS cooler. I used 10W 60 oil as well. Most of the time the revs will be high due to the gearing of the fiesta.
you can use, like I did, final drive from a 1.4 fiesta giving better pick up out of corners.

Just buy the front calliper brackets from a focus ST170 (eBay) discs for a ST170. Genuine Ford discs will be fine if not better then some aftermarket discs.
Keeping the front calliper of the fiesta will work fine. If you look for pads listed under the focus ST170 it gives more pad options.
You won't get this many pad option using mondeo calipers.

If your going to use 15inch wheels you need to shave the back of the calliper be 2/3mm and you can't run wheel weights. Not on on the inner edge any way.
This will be fine for track use, touring cars never use wheel wieght.

Just thinking bigger brakes and calipers for better stopping power and I can brake later too into a corner. For wheels I was thinking a set of 16's just for clearance from the caliper too.
Wheel weights would be something I'd run with since this will be used on the road as well as track.

I'll definitely shoot a DM your way though man if I need pointers in future.

If your buying all them mods in a short period of time of buying a ST150 can you not afford a 1.6 ecoboost ST?

Not getting it all in a short period, will be built over a couple of years, at least until it's supercharged anyway and I'm not too interested in an ecoboost ST, I want a mk6. I'm pretty settled on that.

The Mk6 ST is still an awesome buy! Not a bad word to say about them. Cheap, cheap tax. Cheap insurance great mpg. Cheap servicing. Cheap consumables. Quickish.

Loved mine. Needs filter and miltek and some eibachs to bring them to life but you'll have a carcker after a few some mods.

Also... Super spacious and can have decent spec. Heated windscreen etc.

Don't buy a pre facelift ever.
