Find me a 172, please?

Right, the time has come, the 1.2 is going up for sale just before the new year and I'm wanting a 172, whether it be ph1 or ph2.

I have a budget of 2.5k but this could go up a touch if necessary.

All models/miles/colours considered.

Been looking at yodi's ph1, but it'll need some money for belts etc before I'd be happy with it, (just to give you an idea of stuff I've been looking at)

  ph1 black 172
i looked at yodi's but it was to far away for me or i would of had it.

he wants £1900 for it, most places are £400-500 for full cambelt and aux belt kit. i make that £2300-£2400 which is under your budget and a spare £100 for a new alternator.

bargin and car sorted

Do you want a phase 1 172 mate ? Just asking as they are getting on a bit now, I prefer the phase 2 ones tbh, but they cost more.

on a budget of £2500 then there isnt alot of choice,

you may get a mk2 2001-2002 but more likely the mk1 2000-2001.

i dont see a hugh difference in the age really.

Yeah I realise that for the budget it's going to be a phase 1 car, tbh any phase 2 for that budget will be awful. What I meant was if he could either save up a bit more etc the phase 2 would be the way to go.

It's not really age, more that phase 2 cars look better imo & they are better inside, the phase 1's aren't nice really (i've got a mk1 vee so i've lived with the blue & grey stuff for ages)

  330i. E30 Touring.
Get a well looked after Ph1 that's already had money spent on it. If you don't it WILL cost you money.

This was exactly my plan for the car tbh, spoke to JMS and got some prices etc and for 2.4k it could be sweet as.

I do love the look of the ph1's though Craig, I would be making it a ph1.5 tbh as it'd be having a cup or vee spoiler, ph2 side strips and a ph2 rear bumper and possibly a ph2 dash and interior......

I can save up a bit more, I can easily add 500/800 to the budget in like an extra month and then increase the overdraft a bit for some more, so ph2's are an option..... Really think that the ph2 is THAT much better?

There is a cat C ph2 in the for sale section atm, and tbh I'm not someone who is against registered cars, as its been straight and driven for 4 years since, its a cheap way to get a very nice car....

I've been looking at spongebobs car too, thats had some money put into it, as long as the belts have been done/I have them done then Ph1's shouldnt cause me too much money. :)

Cheers for the help so far, but where are the links? ;)

Yay Rob is finally growing up.. This brings a tear to my eye ;)

Go for the Ph1 dude, deep down we all know you want one, and for your budget you will probably get a pretty decent one also, I will how ever keep my eyes peeled and let you know if I see something.. Good luck dude!

P.s. Yodi's Ph1 does look mint and if the whine is the alternator I don't think it looks a big job.. Worth a look though

Ya cheeky b*****d ;)

I do love the ph1's, the ph2 interior is a whole different level tbh, but if I buy a ph1 I'll be making a lot of changes as I said :)

What about my car in the for sale section?
I will deliver to london if the deal is good. ;)

Looks a nice motor, but I'm looking for something a lot more standard and a lot less track prepped.

Thanks anyways :)

I've got mine for sale in a bit.

Coilovers, Buckets, harnesses, Stainless steel exhaust, decat, debadged bonnet, sony CD, Induction kit, ph2 lights, phase 2 sidestrips....

I'm just about to fit tyhe standard interior in it so it will have the best of both worlds.

Cambelt not due for 2 years or 60,000 miles. Full history and low miles too.

ph1 172 is more raw, rare, sporty looking. Than a ph 1 172 imo. They are alos faster in the right hands. For your budget its the way to go i recon. Mine went for 2.6k and was mint. Needed tax soon though and had a slight sqeek when cold but for your budget dont rush into it. Oh and that yodi or what ever his name is owns my mate rich (clio_rich) old car of here. Would be a good buy imo.

Dan just seen your PM and then saw this...

Dont suppose you fancy a PX with my 1.2 then shift it on your forecourt? ;) I wouldnt want much for it, (and it'd be standard)

I would also then have the 172 interior for yours? (it all fits)

Yeah that one was tasty looking, will request more pics I think and see from there, but there is no mention of belts etc so we'll see.

I'm just excited to be looking for a new car :) I won't rush into it, although when I sell my motor (which I'll have to before buying) I'll be in quite a pickle, as I need it really!

I believe my search is over... That is all I'll say until new new year, when ho ho hopefully (see what I did there) my car will sell and all will be good in the world! :)

That silver 1 is smart. I will be downgrading to a ph 1 in the new year but kinda set my heart on black. They look mean.

Ph2 in the for sale section for bang on your 2.5k budget. Does have 109k miles on it, but you said anything is considered. :)

Yeah Rob's (EvilGiraffe) is a good example of how damn mean they can look, black is lovely, but around my way the ph1's are so rare I'm not worried about what colour it is :)

Cheers Needy,

109k Miles? Ouch! I know people say they go forever but it gets to a point where they need more and more cash putting into them!

I love the ph2's inside, but outside for me, they're not as special.

Oh and the one I've found and fully intend to buy is a ph1 ;)

A very damn nice one at that! :star:

Good on ya fella. Make sure ya put good tyres on and make sure the suspension and gearbox are nice and fresh and ya will love it.

Incase anyone was interested mine sold today on ebay for £1950, just waiting for the buyer to collect next week.

Thanks, Yodi

Glad it sold mate, yours was my first choice and if it was still around after christmas I'd almost certainly have bought it, another car has come up now though, can't turn it down really ;)

P.s kev, I'm sure this one'll be lovely, but I'll keep an eye out for those things :)

Excluding me, Rob and Adam, I have seen 3 other Ph1, 2 Silver and one Flamer... They are getting to popular in this area haha :rasp:

To what Craig? I am going to de dent day, can't make essex meal.
Sorry yeah I meant the de-dent day. Sadly I never got chance to talk to you though. If you do go phase1, be sure to phase2 the interior, or flock it up ;)

If mine wasn't as rare is it is, that interior would be gone long ago !

  Ph1 172 + Combo van
Im on the look out for one. im thinking the best thing to do for my budget though will be to buy a scruffy one and get it up to standard.

Heh heh Craig, it will be ph2'd up, ph2 rears and fronts, and MAYBE even ph2 dash if its not too hard to do!

You'll see it soon enough, hopefully next time I'll actually get to talk to ya! lol

<assive false economy. A scruffy one will set you back £1200 minimum. By the time you've done any bodywork, tyres, brakes, cambelt/aux belt you're talking £1200 worth of work. Then the interior (if its a scruffy one) will be diabolical and need sorting. Thats an endless amount of money imo.

You can buy a mint (ish) standard one for £2500.

Im open to be honest. On the look out for whatever comes up. My dad has a garage though so any mechanical/ body repairs will cost me next to nothing. Brakes, tyres, servicing etc. i can do myself. Interior wouldnt bother me too much as i would probably strip it after a year or so.
