First drive in a 197!

  Mondeo TDCI 130
Renault kindly lent us one as a demo at work, the boss let me take it for a spin, did 12 miles so not far! Have to say i wasnt dissapointed, after reading some of the threads i was expecting it to be bad! went really well, had to work it quite hard for it though! As for comparing it to a 172/182 i dont think its fair! totally different vehicle, but value for money it seems ok, and the brakes are very good! renault havent lost there touch! Fair play to any owners! Enjoy!;)

JACKO CUP 172!

i love them was not to sure at first but since i had me test drive i wouldn mind one..
think most people wanted the 5k kick to be as raw as the 172/182.. but it is so smooth i think i could live with that!!

  R26
when i first got mine back in nov so many didnt like it but it seems a lot are coming round to it.
when these have got 20-30k on i think they will be a lot better i can feel the difrence with just 8k on mine

  Clio 172 mk2 & Clio 3 DCi
have to say they do look good. wasnt keen on the looks at first buts it certainly grown on me a lot recently.

197 have always been the nads, just too many people on here worrying about a couple of tenths to 60 and a few mph off top end.

To be fair, I dont recall most people being bothered about the paper figures. It was more that they just weren't very impressed after their test drive. I remember people saying that their 182 felt a lot more alive when they got back in it. In fact I was one of them :)

Anyway, they are cracking cars and they look fantastic in the flesh :approve:

we'll see..... we have a Cup and a 182 to compare the 197 against ;)

  Saab 93 Aero Wagon
So we are comparing a fast car, with a faster car and a 197 right?;)

Cue a ranting Seb stage right...

Right, todays update! Excellent is all i can say, done about 50 miles riding around, cant see a problem with it!! its no faster than the 182 or wasnt under the conditions we were in, and for my liking you have to change gear a bit often, lovely motor though, would definately have one when there a wee bit cheaper!;) gt_gaz has some pics that he will post later!

Agree!! All you 197 haters are wrong. I loved it, brakes are awsome..... feels nice and refined to me, and has a nice 'note' to it whilst giving it some! Steering as some have said feels abit 'floaty', but the car feels nice and planted. Also as said the car is geared way too short, it could do with a 7th or 6th geared for cruising, but the shift is nice and short, with a positive action. We gave it abit before (me in a standard 182, and steve in the 197) and as steve said it was no faster (197) But to all you guys who say its slow............ your wrong! Big thumbs up from me, much more presence than the 172/182 on the road, be my next purchase, nice car. Roy made the wrong choice ;) Pics up tommorow!

197 looks mint in the flesh, much wider stance than the 172's as seen
above. Also loved the seating posision and seats. Good effort Renault :)

Got to agree with that. In pictures the 197 looks horrid, however in the flesh it doesnt look as bad, just
too(ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo) big imo.

Its not that bad to be fair...... Compared to the black 182 (standard), its taller, but you don't really notice when in the car. Inside thay are just right imo, there is actually space in the rear now. In my 182 the front seats are pretty much jammed to the rears. A 20mm drop would be just right. I suggest you drive one, as they are very very good out the box ;) I'm now a believer :)
