First Track Day Advice.. Anyone else going Blyton on 30th?

  Teg
Just booked on my first track day at Blyton.. Open pit lane on Wednesday 30th. I'm hoping it'll be a little quieter with it being midweek, didn't fancy a busy weekend with it being my first time. Anyone else planning on going?

Any advice to get me and the car through the day in one piece?

I've got myself a pretty nice Bell helmet along with some Sparco gloves and a CG seatbelt lock which will hopefully offer a little support.

Clios a standard FF182 bar me doing the important bits.. New discs, Ferrodo DS2500 pads, Goodridge braided hose, ATE TYP200 fluid and some AD08R tyres.

Is there anything I should be taking? Did fancy taking too much as I've got nowhere to put it when I'm on track. So far I'm thinking Spare fluids (oil, brake and power steering), funnel, air compressor, tyre depth and pressure gauge.. May also take my torque wrench to make sure the wheel nuts don't come loose.

Any tips will be appreciated.. Thanks:up:

Tbh that's a decent list you are taking. Torque wrench is handy. Maybe a jack too? Are there garages there?

I was thinking about taking a jack but with there being no garages there I've decided against it. I'm guessing it would be a useful thing to have.. If I do need one hopefully there's some good lads there who will borrow me one.

If no garages, take a pop up tent in case it pees it down.
Running on the standard suspension?(is good enough, just asking)

Not a bad idea that with a pop up tent.. Just one problem, I haven't got one lol

Yeah it's standard cup suspension. The cars just had belts, dephaser and waterpump done at a specialist which is on this forum, also got them to give the car a once over at all suspension components, engine mounts etc. They said everything was all good.

Any idea what the standard cup suspensions like? Too soft?

Forgot to mention I've also fitted a SPA Oil pressure and temperature gauge just to keep an eye on things.

Cup suspension is meant to be fine. Obviously not the same as coilovers, but still perfectly good for track.
Those pop up tents are cheap as chips from Argos etc.

Is it any car day.... May try and pop over for an hour

As far as I'm aware.. I just booked through Javelin.

Bugger that, keep your eyes on the road & your hands on the wheel!
Calculate 15 mpg into your fuel requirement.

Haha... Hoping no to be too much of a hindrance on track with it being my first time in a car, probably best thing I could do is get the instructor on the day for £20.

My first track day was at Blyton at CSS. I loved it, it's perfect for standard clios, and there's a couple of places where you can really get a feel for where your car will start to misbehave.

My only tips are: ignore cars in your rear view apart from to let them pass.

Don't start letting them push you on or you'll end up cocking up and bouncing off a curb like I did.

And if you start to feel you're about to go full hero, come off the track and cool down for ten minutes.

Thanks for the advice so far... I'll definitely take that onboard that knuckles said.

15mpg.. Hopefully there's a Shell garage near by then as even though the cars standard I only fill up with V-Power and I'll brim it before I start like Dan says.

What sort of tyre pressures should I be looking at? What should I be starting at cold and what roughly should I be aiming for when hot? I'll be taking my tyre compressor and pressure gauge also using Yokohama AD08Rs not sure if that matters to pressures?

Brim it before you go and you should be fine.

I couldn't tell you where the nearest fuel station is as its in the middle of nowhere.

I ran standard pressure (35/35) as its s standard road car on standard road tyres.

Come in when you start to feel it losing grip and either let it cool down or if you want to go back out, lower the pressure.

Nearest Shell is in Retford, about 12 miles from Blyton, and not exactly on your way.
Note that the Gainsborough Tesco only has 95 Ron,no Excellium.
There is a Murco? round the corner going west on A631 with 97/98.
I think you right regarding tyre pressures, set them cold, and as long as they don`t go over maximum pressure marked on sidewalls, leave them alone, rather than risk rolling onto the sidewalls.
Have fun.

Take a tyre pressure gauge and a foot pump,
with the Ad08r's set pressures to 32 front 28 rear before you go out, do a warm up lap, 5 laps, then a cool down lap and come back in,
check tyre pressures again will probably be around 36 front 32 rear now, drop them back to 32 28 again,
keep your on track sessions to around 10 laps maximum

Having set the tyre pressures when hot, don't forget to reinflate them (do it last thing before to leave to ensure they're as cold as possible) before you go home.

Concentrate on lines and braking, speed naturally follows.

Instruction is money well spent and will bring you on loads.

Warning though it's highly addictive

Had an absolute epic day today.. Thanks for all the advise. Met some great people too, they gave me a lot of advise along with passenger rides that helped me out a lot.

Brakes held up perfectly couldn't fault them and the tyres were brilliant too.. No need for improvement there.

Only things that did kind of bother me/I feel room for improvement was the suspension and power delivery. With the power the 5K kick (for me) is fairly annoying so I think I'll make a trip to RS tuning for a remap which will hopefully smooth out the power delivery and give a little more low down torque. The cup suspension held up really well, the car had bags and bags of grip (certainly enough for my driving ability) but it just seemed to roll a lot in the corners so I may look into either new cup dampers along with either some eibachs or cooksports springs or I may look at coilovers.

Truly got the bug lol

Brill, sounds like you had fun and the weather was fab for you too. I tried to get over but work just kept getting in my way of escaping..... maybe next time i will get over
