Fitted a de cat today

Fitted a scorpion decat pipe today as my cat had a big crack in it. Unbelievable the difference in weight the cat must be 10 kg and the decat about a bag of sugar. Just thought I'd give a review as I looked and hadn't been done. First of all taking the old cat off, rusty bolts tricky to get off and lamba sensor I needed a g clamp and a blow torch to get off, centre pipe to cat clamp is stiff aswell, a little heat to open it up. New gasket and for this decat needed longer bolts than standard and washer to fit.

Driving, very quiet, not what I expected and no induction noise anymore, apparently something to do with less back pressure. Haven't had a chance to test for power gains yet cos of the weather but looking at the restrictiveness of the cat there has to be some.

Hope this can help some people doing the same thing.

Yeah the weight of the cat compared to my decat is nuts.
I found that around 70 and about it can get a little too loud.
Can you let me know if your emissions light comes on, mines stayed off for a month but then came on. Found better performance low to mid revs

There's no light on at the mo. I was wondering about that aswell. Mine seems to be really quiet, had it up to a good speed earlier and is fine.

What exhaust do you have on it? I have the ktec supersport and before the decat it was only slightly louder that standard but with decat it sounds nice not too loud but sitting at 70ish it can get annoying after a while.
If you have standard exhaust should change it that too weighs a tonne compared to my new one

Hmmm perhaps i should get a diagnostic check then, i know my back o2 sensor is broke i switched the front one for the back so thats probably whats causing it i hope.

I know mine's not a 182 but with the decat fitted to mine there was no major power differences. The only difference I noticed was it pulled a little better below 5krpm.

My exhaust with the cat in place sounds like a decatted system so with the decat fitted it was insane. I only have the decat in place occasionally because it's ridiculously loud and I'm sure I'd spend most of my time at the side of the road getting a telling off by the local copper. lol

Just a standard system at the mo. I'm pretty sure there is more power bellow 5k. A good mod for the money. Paid 60 quid for the scopion decat and will get 50 back for the original cat. Summit to do with the metals inside, so a tenner and an hour to fit.

I know a few mechanics that just take the Reading off another car so will be fine.

People on here might say it's a sport cat but when ya see it it's like tight honeycomb inside so obviously it's gonna restrict airflow. And it's really heavy.

I've kinda got a big fine to pay at the mo mate from that crash I was in so have no spare cash for a few month. Got a few ideas for the exhaust I want though, get a.s.s to make a BTB copy. Lol what you changing to like?

The 182 CAT is 200 cell so is essentially a sports cat, as said though it is rediculously heavy! I only took my decat off as I couldn't be bothered with the hassle come MOT time.

It is lol. With the decat fitted it got measured with 172Ben's decibel reader at 114.4DBs.

No, it's a k-tec stealth with the centre silencer removed but it's a hell of alot louder than the normal k-tec stealth supersport version for some reason.

It was already removed, I bought the system 2nd hand, it's basically a supersport version really. I think the backbox is empty too though hence the extreme rasp from it lol.

Yeah I was looking at getting another silencer welded in to the system so I can run my decat permanently, seems a waste it just sat there in my garage doing nothing.

Lol you've heard it mate, it was fitted at that NW meet that time. I fitted it that day purely for demonstration purposes :rasp:

Yeah had exhausts before and they do get louder with age. The wire whool sound proofing burns up. Best sounding 1 funnily enough was a piper, ya know the oval 1 every1 hates. Lol

Would like to know what db my exhaust is, they say standard its around 96db or 98 with cat so must be 105db with decat its a good bit louder but any louder would deafen me on long trips

Yeah it is when the decat is fitted, I had a headache from it that night and I only live around the corner from the meeting place lol. Saying that though I did manage to drive it 290 miles straight like that.

Pretty sure yeah, can't comment on K-Tec's sports cat or the performance gains to be had from it.

think ktec sports cats are 100cell not tha 200 like standard but pretty pointless i think and not cheap

donno if i told u da but my car on the RR only made about 179 at the fly, think it worked out in the end at around 170bhp which is terrible, even after full service and full zaust and decat

No I don't think you said, I knew you were getting it on the rollers but never heard the result.

That is pretty poor to be honest, especially with the mods!

How does it drive?

drives fine, guy who had his on made around 178bhp with same mods

i was reading a thread on here and it looks like most made between 165 to 175

now i know its so low now im not spending anymore cash on performance mods now just cosmetics, get it lowered and keep it well maintained

Yeah, the engines do seem to vary massively even as standard.

Think mine must be at the other end of the scale

Plans for mine might be out the window too if I can't get my problems sorted out :dapprove:

Car died and started missing whilst sat in traffic, RAC chap said I had contaminated fuel - which I now think was completely incorrect.

Anyway I've changed pre cat O2 sensor and it hasn't helped. Looking at other options now before taking it to Renault.

yeah i think i read ur thread about desiel in the petrol, i filled my car up at asda a while ago and it was stalling and constantly losing power i just took it onto the motorway and thrashed the life outa it and cleaned the injecters i think lol, it sorted it out anyway
