Fitting 172 Decat

  H&R + Pole Position'd Cup
I'm about to attempt to fit my cup with a silenced decat with the help of a mate.

Is it quite an easy job to do without a ramp? What tools do I need?

I've got a manifold to exhaust gasket kit but not 100% on what order the springs/washers fit together.

If anyone could give me a rough guide then that would be great.

lol, you need a 10mm socket and wrench
a deep 10mm socket, 3 x 4" extention bars and a wrench.

remove the air box and the plenham to get better access,

jack the car up and SECURE it!

one person holds a 10mm socket over the engine bay side, the other uses the 3 extention bars and the deep 10mm socket and drops the 10mm bolt off, you have to move round the ARB to get the right angle.

note the order of the springs, collet, washer bolt before you remove.

good look, you will need it, fuckign right b**ch to do

i think the order of the bolts is, (i think!)

bolt, recessed seat, MANIFOLD, steel wire gasket, DE CAT, flat washer, spring, washer with the lip, tiny washer then 10mm nut

There was a diagram/picture on here with the right order for the fitting kit. Proper b*****d of a job, I did it in about an hour with the help of my dad. Would be miles easier with a ramp though :S

Does sound like nob to do. Hmm *wonders how much a garage would charge to fit it*

Its really easy mate, did mine on my own in 15mins. Use the renault jack to support one end while you fit the other

Heres a picture of how the springs & washers etc fit

Yeah, but you didnt have the access problems as you were using a 182 manifold with the engine out ;) lol :)

Oh forgot to say! It will very probably blow out of the Decat/midsection join.
You Will need new bolts for that join and also exhaust paste probably

Had a look at it today and decided to leave it till tomorrow.

By the way, what do you mean by 3 extension bars? a 12" extension bar is needed?!

you need to hands of a 5yr old to do this job... and some massive extensions!!!

Took me and a mate 3hrs to fit mine, scrambling under the car on axle stands, i used the old fitting kit and mine was blowing ARGH!

I bottled it and got a garage to fit it for 30squids.

Car feels a bit more responsive already.

Cheers for the help anyway.

MOT's are gonna be expensive.....

£30 remove........£50 mot............£30 refit.........£110/year

Unless you have a mot friendly garage........if not wouldn't it be worth looking for a sports cat?

The same garage that fit the decat, offered to be very friendly if I came back and MOT'd with them.

:)
