Fitting a 2.25 backbox to a 2.5 centre section – possible?

As title really. Want to replace the very visible backbox on my 172. I have bought a 2.25 inch diameter s/s steath backbox (powerflow I think).

I could buy a second hand standard centre section but:

(a) It seems a shame to waste the 2.5 inch stainless centre section I already have.

(b) I’m a miser and would rather not spend the £40ish for a lower quality centre section.

By choice I would rather not damage either of the stainless bits I have.

Advice appreciated.

BTW – aware that the cheap option would be no rear silencer and just a straight pipe but I’m looking to keep this exhaust quiet!

Near the Uni/Hospital.

Whats the solution? I can see it would be easy the other way round as the exhaust slides over the mid section (and could just use a sleeve) but can't see that I will be able to easily slide the backbox over the centre.

Is that an offer of assistance?!?
