Fitting Alloys?

Car  1.6 Ford Focus
This question could be pretty dumb but I have always been a fan of cars and my Clio is my first car so I am not entiraly sure how certain modifications are done.

How exactly do I fit alloys? I have seen it done but is there a way to do it at home? Thats putting the tires on the alloys and then fitting the alloys to the car.

Would it be costly buying the tools needed to do it myself or can I just, for example, chuck the alloys in the boot and drive to a garage and ask them to fit them for me?

Will the standard tires I have now, which have hubs... not alloys, fit on the alloys or will I need different tires?

I would get a garage to fit the tyres as they will no doubt need balancing as well, about £10 a wheel for this around my area.

You will probably need wider tyres for your alloys, what size are they?

Ok, thats not such a bad price actually...

I don't have any alloys yet, I am just pooling my ideas really. My car has some hideous wheel trims at the moment and I want to change them to something that suits the car more. I am thinking of either 15" or 16" alloys though.

For 15's the most popluar and cheapest tyre would be a 195/50/15's and for 16's your looking at 195/45/16. Just bear in mind if your car isnt lowered and you fit alloys, it might look like a 4x4.

^Only if he goes for 16" upwards. 15"s look standard.

If you need to get tyres fitted then you may as well get the garage to fit them to your car while you're there.

It's getting rather expensive then... say £200 for a set of 2nd hand alloys, and another £100 per tire?

Depends on what wheels (which will then effect what size tyres) you go for.

The total cost will vary massively. Second hand alloys i'd say you'd usually get a set of tyres already on them. If not then for £100 a corner you be getting premium tyres. If you go for 15" you'll be spending a lot less than £600.

My car had newish tires fitted when I bought it... Doh!

Im keeping an eye on the for sale section here to see what comes up but I mean it all depends on the tire condition. If thats the case that I can pick up some alloys from here for £100 for each with decent quality tires then thats great.

Just had another thought... brakes... my car has standard drum brakes I belive...
