Fitting an oil pressure sender

  '92 172, Lotus Elise
I have a 172 engine fitting into a mk1 clio and I want to wire up the oil pressure sender like the mk1 engine... but the mk2 doesnt have the hole...

would I be right in thinking I can buy a sandwich plate for the oil filter whick will allow me to screw the sender in? anyone got a link to one? I take it the oil is pressurised here?

I realise I can screw the sender into where the oil pressure switch goes, but tbh i'd rather leave that there as I'm far more likely to notice a big red light on the dash being on that the guage dropping if something goes wrong! :D

can i get a T (or Y) piece to screw in where the oil pressure switch goes?

i *think* all you do is replace the 172 oil level sensor with the valver one as the valver one has it combined

I've replaced the one in the sump for the valver one, as that gives oil level and temp readings to the guages... but I'm after pressure which is from a seperate sender on the back of the block usually

oh i see, in that case yeah you'll want a sandwhich plate
oils pressurised through the filter yeah so you can just screw the sender in to the sandwhich plate
assuming renault use the same thread ..
even if they dont its no real problem drill and tap the right thread in to the sandwhich plate

I'd tee piece into the oil pressure switch hole personally. Probably be a damn sight cheaper too.

i've never seen a t peice for that, i've seen adaptors for them to add an pressure line to a turbo but never to fit two switches

if you find one let me know please

Thats what I do.

If your clever you can make an adaptor that will thread in and line up in the tightest available space, but tis far easier to get a peice of braided line made up with a T peice on the end so you can remote locate both sensors a little, its too tight in there otherwise.

I'd say the second one is probably bang on, and if your on about the green thing that looks like the oil pressure switch then thats the knock sensor the oil pressure switch is lower down below the oil filter.

Yeh it is sorry, its lower down than the picture made me think the knock sensor is brown too! I'm on nights so i'll blame it on that .

Measure the thread and see if you can get one of those tee pieces in the right size.
