Fitting Cup spacing coilovers to a non cup hub.

I read somewhere that it can be done by elongating the bolt hole in the hub.

What about elongating the holes in the coilovers, surely that will be easier and a little safer?

Can anyone think of a reason why i shouldnt do it?

Can the hubs not be picked up pretty cheaply now so so why not just change them as part of the upgrade?

Thought the cups used longer driveshafts etc.

You say it wont be safe, but im sure some coilovers use an elongated hole to adjust the camber anyway..

Some coilovers have a different width meaning they wouldn't fit the non-cup hub anyway. I'm not saying this is the case, but it has been known.

If I remember correctly 182 hubs are slightly wider than a regular 182's.

It would be easier/safer to change the hubs.

Not as far as I know mate. It's been done on here before, someone was selling a set of coilovers with non-cup hubs recently.

I'm 90% sure its just the hub carrier itself, although the bearings are different so that could mean so are the drive shaft ends? Wishbones afaik are the same. There is a 6mm difference between the bolt spacings of the cup packed 182 and non, so its more than just drilling them out

Yeah i was gonna use an air die grinder and extend the whole in the coilover.

It shouldnt be difficult, as long as i dont get the angle wrong, so it wont change the camber.

we did it to make trophy shocks fit a 172 hub. i reccomend elongating the bottom hole

some come with slotted holes as new.

I'd happily slot the upper holes on the bottom shock bracket by a few mm. keep the lower hole un slotted, and nothing will move anywhere once it's all tight

exactly, the fk struts come with loads of slack
