Fitting new car stereo

Can someone tell me how hard it is to install a new stereo? I've bought the correct plugs etc so is it as easy as just connecting the plugs together? I really don't want to pay £50 to have it put in if it's really easy.

I have also bought a clarion active sub from eBay but it didn't come with any leads. The inputs on it are funny looking white plugs, are the leads for this pretty standard or will I have to get them from clarion?

What plugs have you bought !? I've never fitted one to any car that has required additional plugs/leads.

It's the easiest thing in the world. Take old one out, put new one in. If you can't manage to swap a HU out, you need to wonder if you were dropped on your head as a child.

No idea what you're on about with the sub. Normally there's a live you run from the battery (fuse it!), an earth you keep short, normally under a seat mount point or something and the remote from the HU. Then there's a pair of Phonos from the HU which carry the sound.

It's simple as it gets really.

It just says power below the right hand white plug.

So assuming I wasn't dropped on my head as a child will I find it easy to fit the stalk adapter and patch lead??

Stalk adaptor is a dash-out job, there is a guide in the guides section for removing a PH2 dash - it's not difficult, but it is time consuming, will involve shouting/swearing but be sensible (patience, follow guide carefully, don't loose torx nuts, start in the morning leaving yourself lots of day light, don't just pull at trim till it snaps etc) and it's fine.

headunits are very easy, especially on the PH2 clio which uses a standard ISO plug. A pair of relatively standard "audio removal keys" from Halfords (£6 guess?) or Amazon (£1.99 with free P&P lol...) makes it an absolute doddle. If you can't wait/cheapskate then you can try tiny flat head screw drivers/bent coathangers etc first. Some cars theat'll work, others will be a right pain and will need the proper release keys.

Sub again isn't hard but be patient & do it properly. Grounding the ground isn't hard. Pushing wire through the firewall isn't hard but takes time. Routing cables under/behind trim/carpet isn't hard but takes time. Setting it up for best sound quality isn't hard but takes time (some good guides on the internet) Hardest bit sounds like working out WTF you've bought from ebay! Suggest you google the make/model and look for a PDF version of the manual/installation guide.

Definitely have a crack at it yourself before spending £50. If you spend £50 you'll feel a bit silly when you watch how simple it is...

Maybe the unit has come from an OEM rather than an 'off the shelf' part ?! I've not seen connectors like that on any sub before. I wouldn't want to put much power through what looks like doorbell wire, but I'm no expert.

Regarding the stalk adaptor, I've no idea. I only mentioned the HU in the first instance. Are there any instructions ?! How hard can it be...

the clarion sub comes with wires usually. possibly could be a b**ch to find as the earth, power, and remote all go into one connector.. try contacting clarion or searching ebay/google
