Focal K2 Polykevlar - will they fit?

  Now: 350Z; Before: Trophy
Hi everyone,

I am about to buy a set of Focal 130 (13cm) Polykevlar K2s but was wondering if anyone knows if they will fit into the standard door mounts in the front of the car?

I have past experience with these speakers and although they were OK for width the large magnet meant it was too deep to mount into the door of my E46 330ci and therefore had to opt for the V2 Slims instead.

Any feedback on the K2s and mounting depth in the Clio much appreciated...

Thanks in advance!

If this is a Mk2 we're talking about then the problem isn't depth its width usually.
There is a good 2.5" (iirc) or so of room behind then but it tapers down in the doors which causes a problem with large magnets that are parallel in size.
In the rear of a 3dr its no problem at all, loads of room. Not sure about the 5dr.

Yup it's for a Trophy, so Mk2. I am leaving the rears as stock (and turning them down all the way).

The width I hope should be ok seeing as they are 13cms?

Thanks for the reply btw :)

I don't mean the width of the actual speaker, I mean the space behind the speaker tapers down it may be 13cm at the start but its probably only about 7-8cm at the back.

Its only plastic in the end and I can be cut out but i'm sure that its a splash guard for the speaker so didn't want to remove mine. Just pop one of the front speakers out its a min 5 job and you can properly see what I mean.

Yeah if it gets in the way you can cut it out as it's only plastic. Should be enough depth there, but be sure to have your window fully down when trying it in the speaker location so you can see if it will be in the way or not.

What are the mounting depths of the Focals?

Thanks guys for the help.

Dimensions are below if it helps a bit more! I have not got the actual uni yet nor have I removed the existing speaker so this is all I have to go on at the moment...

My Rainbows are 58mm and fit fine, so 61mm should fit but don't quote me.

If you stick a piece of tape tight across the speaker hole and measure from that to the back of the plastic that should give you the max mounting depth.

Thanks guys.

I've now bought these speakers (£150, brand new, rrp £399!) so I will make them fit even if I have to drill a hole through the outer door!!!!

Now I just have to find an amp to drive them. MRV 420 is looking like a potential candidate at the moment...

Cheers

Just to keep this updated for anyone in the future... these speakers fit perfectly in a Mk2 Clio. They are, of course, completely amazing too. If you ever thought money is wasted on a good tweeter then you only need 1 minute listening to this split system to know what you've been missing. It is like someone standing in front of you singing. Amazing.

I had these in my old Mk1 172....

Great set of comps. should off got the same again but tried Phoenix Gold, just as good IMO.

The 13cm Focal's will fit no without any problems in a Mk2 Ph2 :)

I had the Access 130 in the front without any modification before I went for the 17cm K2p's
