Follow on from Phil172's crash question.

Car  Megane 225 Turbo
Hi, this isn't about Clio's but is linked to a story about a Clio. Phil172 had a crash as I was reading down the page and you mentioned about the boot floor.

Cut a long story short my mate had quite a shunt in his Rover 214. Basically it has crumpled the boot floor in my opinion beyond repair. Only external marks are on the bumper where the bracket has come through. On closer inspection and lifting the carpet (After finally getting the boot open) the boot floor is crumpled so amazing hard it has bent and slashed the spare wheel/tyre. It really does look a mess, but the plastic panels have popped back out making it look ok from outside.

Also the rear lights dont sit right. Again I know it's not about a Clio but Phil172's question got me thinking too, should the insurance be paying this out? They've already agreed in my opinion it's a write off, as it's only a T-reg and Rover's arent particularly the most money-holding car at the moment.

Opinions on boot floors lol?

depends. on some cars the boot provides structure, so when its bent theres a good chance the car is a write off.

i had a tiny bump in my clio when i was rear ended, and it still managed to truly knacker the slam panel, but luckily no damage to the boot floor. ive experienced the same in that the bumper has broke off all its mountings, but has popped back into shape without smashing :)

New cars are designed to crumple and unfortunately they do.Most new cars are now made to run over people better rather than save the car so in escence if you hit something small they right of your car.Sad times

For it to show on HPI the value of work to be done has to be close to write off value...........

So say a rear end shunt doing 1500 quids worth of damage will not even show up...........
