Following on from stalk help

As i said before, i've got a wide, flat 6 pin lead coming from the car, that controlled the stalk and went into the original HU, but the adaptor i bought (and is right, i have checked) is a square yellow one. Is it possible to strip the wires from the flat connector and attach them to the new one?

yellow one is for the mk 2 phase 2 matey
