Forza Horizon

You'll still be able to upgrade the suspension, but it'll all be upgraded to a default setting - you can't alter exactly how low you have it, it'll just be a set amount lower/stiffer than standard. That's the way I understand it anyway. But yeah, does sound dumbed down a bit.

  C1 VTR (Company Car)
So you can drop in a massive engines, but not lower your car? Seems a bit... dumbed down?

You'll be able to lower mate.

No tuning means like, not tweaking the ride hight in inches or changing gear ratios. That sort of tuning. Tuning and Upgrading are completely differant in Forza.

I don't see why you'd need to do that sort of tuning in an open world game anyway

Some more s**t to read..

TopGear Plays Horizon!I know I spent a good chunk of last week’s WIR linking to Forza Horizon previews, but here’s one more that I think merits a read. During the recent Forza Horizon press tour, our friends got a chance to spend some time with Horizon and filed a great piece about the game. A highlight from the story:

“Based in Colorado, the premise behind Forza Horizon is the complete freedom to go wherever the hell you want, and for the first time in Forza's history, this now includes off-road. And unlike some other open-world racing games, you can take any car off-road. So if you've ever wondered what a Pagani Zonda R handles like on the rough stuff, this is for you.”

Jalopnik Dances to Horizon!
To coincide with the release of this week’s Behind the Scenes video, we also revealed the full soundtrack for Forza Horizon. Music plays a big role in Forza Horizon – from the fun and fireworks of the Horizon Festival itself to the choice of three radio stations you’ll have at your fingertips when driving, you’ll never be far from great tunes in the game (unless, of course, you switch off the radio, that is).

The Forza Horizon soundtrack was curated by BBC Radio DJ Rob da Bank – a guy who knows a thing or two about festivals and music. And if you’ve got any further doubts about the musical backdrop for Horizon, try this tidbit from Jalopnik, who called the Horizon soundtrack, “the best in-game music for a racing platform since… Wipeout XL for the Playstation.” As a lifelong gamer (and a fan of Wipeout and its music, I call that high praise indeed.

But don’t take our word for it. Jalopnik’s gone and made a Spotify playlist for two of the three Horizon radio stations which you can listen to right now and make up your own mind.

October Rivals Runner
If you’re a fan of Rivals Mode in Forza Motorsport 4, we’ve got something special for you coming next week. We’re calling it “Rivals Runner” and it will kick off with the next batch of Rivals Mode events coming to the “Community Monthly” channel of Forza 4’s Rivals Mode on Tuesday.

The idea here is to find out the best overall driver each month across four driving disciplines – autocross, drag, drift, and hotlapping. Each month we’ll have one Rivals Mode event from each discipline (we’ll let you know which events are part of the monthly competition in the Rivals Mode descriptions themselves). The top 5,000 players on a Rivals Runner event leaderboard will be awarded points – 5000 points for first place, 1 point for 5,000[SUP]th[/SUP] place, and so on. The player with the largest total points across all four events will be declared that months’ winner.

Now, a couple of caveats: We’re working some special magic on the community side so your place in Rivals Runner events won’t be evident in-game. However, we will be putting a weekly link in the Week in Review to the all-around leaderboard that will live on the forums, so you’ll be able to check your standings as we go.

I’m excited for this event series and I think it will add a new level of competitive action to the game – and maybe encourage players to branch out of their traditional comfort zones in the game. For October, we’ll be offering the complete list of unicorn cars in Forza Motorsport 4 to the top ten finishers. So, get ready for an October full of incredible racing in Forza 4 and good luck to everyone! If you want to discuss Rivals Runners – tips, strategies, or anything else – hit up the official Rivals Runner discussion thread. Good luck to everyone!

Here’s the list of October’s Forza 4 Rivals Mode events:

Last Stop: ColoradoThe last leg of your journey has begun, the Horizon Festival is only days away and you have made a stop in the scenic woodlands of Wisconsin for one final tune-up before arriving in Colorado. Upgrade your Dodge Challenger 392 so you can dominate the competition at Road America.

It Starts AgainHard to believe it has been a year since Forza Motorsport 4 was released but here is your chance to relive that first experience as you pilot the Ferrari 458 around Alps once again. This event is part of Rivals Runner October.

Lost in the SlideTime to get sideways in Sonoma. How well will you drift around this legendary American raceway? This event is part of Rivals Runner October.

Tic Track GoUnlike this event’s namesake there will be no draws here, show up with you fastest 800hp-plus vehicle and see if you can take down the competition. This event is part of Rivals Runner October.

Silvercone RacewaySuper-fast cars trying to maneuver through the autocross cones could be a mix made in heaven or elsewhere depending on your viewpoint. This event is part of Rivals Runner October.

Heart of a ChampionRace against three-time USTCC racing champion Ken Kurtz at his favorite track, Infineon. Now known as Sonoma, Kurtz won here as recently as September 23rd. His Trans Am is mighty and has dominated the USTCC in recent years. Build up your own Class A Trans Am and see how you match up against a champion. Post your comments and find tunes and designs in the “Heart of a Champion” thread in the Community Event forum at forzamotorsport.net

Bacon Shortage?
Bacon shortage ? BACON SHORTAGE!? RED ALERT! RED ALERT!

Okay, sorry about that. I panicked for a moment. Maybe it’s not that big of a deal after all.

Whew.

Anyway, thanks for reading the Week in Review. I’m loath to leave you on a down-note, so let me tease you with a sneak peek of next week: not one, but two Forza Horizon videos, and an announcement that will make you all very, very happy. That’s all I can reveal now – except that you should be sure and check FM.net on Monday for that aforementioned piece of news. It will be worth it.

Which is all well and good if you're lapping a track, probably make no odds barreling backwards through a fence

Fine tuning is a big bonus in the Forza franchise why on earth wouldn't you want it included in the newest title?

Toe adjustments, brake pressure, diff settings, tyre pressures, aero. It doesn't just change what time you finish a lap you know..

Although I see your point where its not necessary to have tuning being a free roam where precision isn't the key but it still a huge part of the Forza games and a real shame to not include it IMO.

Quote for christopher this will make him happy lol ;)

And because we're driving Gods, we dived straight into the difficulty settings and turned off all assists. It makes it harder, but to get the most out of Forza's physics you want them gone. And even though the techies at Turn 10 told us that the physics system is exactly the same, the cars didn't quite seem to have identical characteristics to those in Forza Motorsport. Slightly less weight to the cars, front-wheel-drive cars seemed to have a more arcadey style of grip, and in rear-wheel-drive, there didn't seem to the same weight transfer through the controller as Forza 4. Still masses of fun, but not quite as challenging to hold a slide.

The fact that there are dedicated drift events and no tuning screams to me that it's been dumbed down. Drifting without tuning is just power oversteer, lol.

Plus I didn't just tune cars in FM4 to make them quicker, but to make them more fun to drive. FWD cars with stiff rear springs and rear ARB is where it's at ;)

Nice to see the 200/Twingo/MKII Golf in there. I'll be spending most of my time ragging the T16 though

A lot of cars are in there that I'd heard they'd left out actually; like the F40. I can't wait to hoon that about

Glad to see the 200 back. Though its probably sad wanting a Clio when you have such other exotic cars.

I'd prefer it if there were more 'normal' cars included. Nothing better than hooning around some amazing roads in a car you could actually own one day...
I hope they include the MK1 MX5 again. lol

I want a Miata too, have 6 of them on FM4 :(

There seems to be a fair few convertibles in there actually! Food for thought, since your driver won't be, I assume, wearing a helmet and that there was mention a while back of a 'story', I wonder whether you'll have the option to choose what they look like? Hmmm...

You don't. They said in a vid I watched a while back, lol.

Wait, does that mean we're all going to look the same whilst online? They have to do something, surely?

Can't have 8 Paul Walkers cruising around, lol.

  Liquid Yellow 182 FF
Wish they'd put stuff like the 182 and 106 gti etc in the game, or bring out a pack full of old french hot hatches.

  Evo 8 MR
Hasn't this been done twice already in TDU and TDU2?

Also where someone said about doing an open pitlane mode not being possible, GT5 does it, jus sayin...

This will wipe the floor with TDU1+2.

Open pit lane would be for Forza 4 but yeah I know which I would choose out of the 2 lol.

  An orange one
I'm not convinced either, the cars don't look like they do in FM4 when they are sliding etc,

And those stupid constant pop ups and points for everything would drive me round the bend

Whiiiiiiine whine whiiiiiiine. You may as well keep playing F4 given you'll never be happy with Horizon :p
