Found PAS leak... Options?

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
Found where the PAS is leaking; its from the mount on the from of the gearbox. I undid the bolt a little and now it leaking quite badly even with the engine off. So driving the car is not an option as fluid would be gone in no time I expect once the pumps going. I guess my options are:

(1) get the car recovered and let someone else fix it (@Dan@SJM quote?)
(2) attempt to fix it myself with a second hand oe pipe
(3) attempt to fix it myself with a new oe pipe
(4) attempt to fix it myself, getting the existing pipe repaired (someone please suggest companies to use)

Ideally I need the car back on the road asap... help!

All the pipes and parts can be bought from renault.
Best just to identify what one you need and get a new part to stop the leaking.

none of those. the one I need is £210 I think new, so might go the the second hand route.

can someone tell me if its ok to run the car very a very sort whilst to move it from the left side of my driveway to the right with no PAS fluid? Dont want to damage the pump as it seems to be ok at the moment...

for 210 new id try a used pipe but they are all getting on for a decade give or take a year or 2 so how reliable that would be is anyones guess

glad my hpas is the back of the garage in a box lol

Ok finally got the old pipe out! Surprisingly I was able to undo the pipe going into the rack with a normal 17mm open ended spanner, I was expecting it to be a bit more of a struggle! Hardest part was getting the actual pipe out through the wheel arch! I started off thinking these pipes were quite fragile but I now realise they are not!

I have a second hand pipe on the way to me so should have it back together soon thankfully. I am a bit concerned about how tight I should be doing up the ends though, is it a case of finger tight then 20 degrees with the spanner?

Check the olives inside the hose (if this hose has any I can't remember now :S) and clean all the threads up etc first, then tightness I would say more than finger right tbh, it would be tight with spanner taking it easy then an extra quarter, but as you can guess no one is the same strength so it will be on your judgment, but it's a hyd hose so it needs to be pretty tight.

Back to your orginal question, maybe you be better of taking your PAS PIPE to a company like pirtek who could make you up a new one . But shouldnt cost the same as renault and you know it's less likely to leek like a second hand one

Yeah I have a second hand one on the way, and what i'm going to do is send my old one off to be fixed/modified so should the second hand one fail in the future I will have a replacement ready. Its still cheaper than a new one :)

Do you have a picture of the pipe you need? I have some used ones so may be able to help.
Its the high pressure pipe that goes from the front left of the engine all the way around to the right, over the gearbox and back to the rear left. If the one thats on the way to me doesn't show up, i'll be in touch :)

I know there was a few traders in here before asking the questions, and I said the system would be revised and Looked into.

Here is a link to part of the new outcome,

http://www.cliosport.net/index.php?threads/Traders-Fees->-Reduced-for-new,-free-for-you!.764006/

Myself and the rest of the admin team know exactly what specialists and traders do for this forum, this is part of the revision other announcements will be made shortly.

Thanks again

Dan
Glad to see someone's doing something Dan. Guess only Traders can read that thread? Whats the gist of it for us non-traders?

Yep only traders can pick up that info, but basically prices have been reduced by a huge amount and also potential for it being free if they meet a criteria over the year (not a big criteria either tbh) also more advertising for them if they do take up the way of meeting the criteria :)

It's all gain for both traders and members, more info will be revealed on Friday when it goes live.

Like I said previously if anyone has a problem with the system it will be looked into, but I can't go looking if I don't know what's wrong lol.
