fox accident = goodbye front bumper + splitter

  e60 M5 -172- dciheid
Heading home the night to the house, not a sole on the road and out of nowhere on the dual carriageway at a flyover a fox (wasnt sure it was at first - looked like a white cat!) jumped out in front of me in the inside lane. Luckily no one was behind me or at my side, so when i whacked him it didnt move me off course, however i saw plenty of debris be ripped off the car. Knew straight away it didnt sound clever, so pulled in at layby and oh yes, good bye splitter, front bumper and the plastic undertray.

So went back round down to see the carnage, luckily as it was nearly midnight no cars about so able to collect all my debris, i had hoped the splitter would be weldable, however its well and truly furked, smashed in the middle and in about 5 bits and pretty impossible to salvage. Under panel is well and truly finished as well, a jigsaw of pieces there as well. Luckily it doesnt seem to have impacted on radiator and fully driveable, which is handy as i do a fair bit of travelling around.

Downside is not only the cost, but the fact that the car was pretty much finished in terms of the way i wanted it, and today i had just confirmed the final touch up spraying to the bumpers and for my v6 spoiler. Looks like thats on hold!

What baffles me is the fox was on a flyover, about 15m off the lower level where there isnt even dense greenery and fields, so what the hell it was doing up there i dont know. Even weirder was when i was driving alone a random thought came into my head about how the mileage is piling up on the car and that it is being ruined (have been looking a few 2nd cars to ease this issue) then within 10 seconds of that thought closing boff, fox appears and is there for taking off the bumper and splitter! Uncanny!!

I reckon its £450- £500 or so damage to get the parts from renault?

£143 splitter
£300 bumper + lower grill
£30 for engine panel?

who knows.

Least i know what to ask santa for :D

pics for the gullish.

I was going to take a pic of the fox as it lay there in the middle of the road, however its guts and everything were everywhere, so not the best. However, im sure subway would be right up for seeing them!!

oh and anyone selling an iceberg front bumper :rasp:

Re: fox accident = good by front bumper + splitter

ahh das is nat good.

you would be surprized what yo see on the motor way i saw a badger once on the m73 flyover off the m8 towards hamilton thats like 50m in the air, dunno what it was doing but it was looking over the edge, contemplating suiside. i hate when things jump out at you like landies parked next to fields in the moddle of the night with no reflective surcased on them, you only see them when you are bout 10 feet away from them, and oyu need to swerve round them. or transits who just decide you move into your lane withough checking if your their, even if its 6 mile tial back, going 2 mph, there isnt a gap but hes coming in i slow, he changed his mine is pick up again he desides fec it and oulls out les than 10 inches from my bumper, leaving me no option but to bail out to the hard shoulde to avoid the fecker.

home the car gets sorted mate the zorst ok and that?

Bummer mate!!

I hit a fox myself a couple of years back...

Was in my old rover 220gsi turbo. Was sitting at about 110 when it shot infront of me and well you can imagine the rest lol.

Fox was a right old mess and it ripped my splitter off and the mesh out my bumper but bumper held up so quite lucky compared to you mate.

Sure I've got a photo of the fox somewhere...had it's tongue out - cheeky b*stard lol

Unlucky mate. At least it didn't do more damage like the badger^

Unlucky

Hate to say it but I think the plastic undertray is a bit more than £30. I priced up a replacement for mine when I hit some debris on a sliproad, was told the price and thought "f**k that". I just tidied up what was left on the car lol.

Feel for you mate, I twatted a fox in the 1.2, fortunatly it didnt go fast enough to break a bumper, just had to jet wash the front end off!

was a bit of a shock, i still cant believe it was up there, no reason at all!!

i went to get pics of the fox after it, however the police had removed the b*****d, however i can reveal that there was plenty of guts, intestines and stomach lying everywhere. It was spewed over an area of about 10 yards.

Pleasant!!however i reckon it died on impact as its insides were all over the place.

Priced everything up £674.38 - quality.

Trying to temporary bodge on the old lower bumper as it looks pisch without that. However iv saved about 300kgs with this stuff off, and must be about 10bhp a tonne better off now :rasp:

i dont even know if it was male or female, however, given it was a bit of a 'tard i think i know what sex it was

he might mean the tray between subframe and front bumper.

yeh thats the one i mean.

luckily the radiator didnt cop it too much.

thats the one im on about fella, the tray which attatches to the bumper underneath in the middle by the rad

it aint worth buying as its flimsy as hell and doesnt really do anything

i managed to get a new bumper from renault which came with a lower grill, get it sprayed, get a new radiator and fan off ebay and fit everything for 400 notes

hate to think what it would have cost if i hadnt done the labour myself

Thats harsh fella.. I cracked my bumper on a rabbit a few weeks ago! I had taken my carbon splitter off the weekend before, but thats because it snapped on a speed bump!

the £600 figure is moi doing the install as well.

however, thats based on no discounts and all new gear - i will get something for the bumper 2nd hand.

Theres a lower grille on here for £20 for example as well
