Friend is thinking of getting Clio 172 or 200 SX...

  BMW M135i
The bonnet is a bit long, everytime my dads drove it he's drove it into the gate coming onto the drive lol.
My mates had 4 now (3xS13,S15) and i've had a shot in them all, so so wierd coming from the clio/megane to have the length. Just seems to float around the scenary when you drive! Dead strange, but blooming good fun motors! Was gutted when he shifted the 15 on :(.

I'd love an S15 but cant justify the prices for a better looking S14a with a roller bearing turbo. Its very different to the clio and surprisingly good at cruising providing you dont have a stupidly loud exhaust and no interior heh.

Thanks for all your responses - reason I ask is that I have a friend with 230 and one with 190 - I was confident could beat 190 but wanted to get idea of 230 sounds like it would be pretty close :)

I have had both and as an all round car the clio wins. That said, I loved my sx for 2 years and running nearly 300 bhp at the end it didn't hang around!

With a 200sx the performance come at a price there awful on fuel and there slowly rusting away, get a clio and enjoy having the best of both performance/running costs.

In the real world performance a clio would eat an sx for breakfast and keep up with a stage 1/1a.

In real world a clio would be similar to a standard SX but in no way would it 'eat it for breakfast' in the same way that the SX wouldn't kill a clio either. Stage 1 on the 200SX should take it to around the 220-230hp mark, how exactly would the clio keep up with it when the clio struggles for 170hp? Please please please dont say 'it'd have it in the twisties' because the clio really isn't much better than an S13 for handling, trust me.

I've had one, Standard 14a and stage 1/1a (1.2bar with supporting mods) fast in a straight line and fun side ways but i wouldn't say they handle well, the clio on the other hand small nimble instant punch i could get from a-b much quicker in one thus why i sold the sx and i'm on the hunt for a clio.

Thats just from my experiance i'm no driving god maybe that affects my opinion.

never driven an s13 but from being on sxoc they seem to be alot of trouble.

My 200sx is not bad at all on fuel if your sensible, runs about 300bhp,no rust and its mint to drive,Dont listen to all the haters ,if theirs a car with more chav image than any other its probably a clio.

Fair enough lol, rumour has it that an S13 for the 5 minutes its working properly handles quite a bit better than an S14, I've not had the pleasure of driving an S14 but mine is perfectly nimble, I have just as much confidence throwing the 200 around as I do the clio.

my mate had an s14 when i had my 190bhp 172, his was running a few goodies (hks manifold, nismo injectors, front mount, nur spec R and decat, boost controller) estimated around 300/320bhp.

straight line it was mental, would see off most things you will meet on the road! my mate got to about 160mph when he backed off as he was getting scared lol, handling his was on coilovers but you would be surprized for a big heavy car it handled VERY well it was having the balls to push it, very rewarding to drive quick where the clio is so easy and forgiving to drive quick, you respect the 200 as you know if you push that loud pedal a bit to much in a bend your going backwords!

as for what car would you want to do a long trip in, the 200sx is a mega cumfy big cruiser, full leather etc, dont know what they are like standard but my mates was MEGA thirsty

i love them and was seriously close to buying my mates before he sold it, thru the bends i could keep up in the clio if i really really pushed the clio but in a straight line it pulled on me like i was in a 1.2!! and on the motorway, not a hope in hell lol
