Front end 197

R.E my post on my aircon,

A week or so ago i noticed my Aircon wasn't working, the light inside the car comes on but get no click from the compressor so somethings up, I've had some responses and am going to investigate further this week..

Now yesterday whilst at work i was jet washing my car and when i bent down to spray the front grill and i noticed that the Rad / Condensor ? was battered ! I'm talking a massive crease in it possibly from a stone or something.

What i would like to know is, Is this my Radiator or condensor ??? I know some manufacturers position the condensors behind the rads or vice verser so without taking a trip to Renault to find out the answer can anyone help ? Possibly any specialists info would be appreciated

Will post pics later but if any 197 owner fancies having a look at their car i'd appreciate it as in work until later

That's why my aircon isnt working then, Must have a leak from the condensor..

Expensive part ?

Bumper off etc to replace... I'll do it myself if it isnt too much work

IIRC it is around £200 for the part.

Mine decided to let all the gas disappear for some reason. lol

Oh well needs to be done, I dont even use aircon unless its really really hot, But i cant have a dented condensor so will replace..

Big job or simple enough ?

I never got round to fixing mine before I sold it. I didn't want to do it myself as I didn't want to risk a leak but other than that it doesn't look too difficult witht he bumper off.

Strange, even though my condensor has a dent/crease in it my mate who does aircon refills came over, He opened up a valve in the engine bay on the aircon pipes and when opened gas came out so i dont think my condensor has a leak.. I think i'll take it into renault and get them to check it out

I have heard that earlier 197's had issues with the compressor bearings falling a part and siezing the pump. I beleive its a warranty isssue, so go give renault a call.

There is issues with them thinking they are being overloaded!! Take it to renault, prob just needs a reset!

They told gaz not to use it on the high setting! lol!

TBH i used it a couple of weeks ago on full blast for about 10 mins as it was roasting so smoked a cig and had it running to cool the inside down... I'll pop into Renault this week and explain my problem.... Even though my stealers are cnuts, It'll probably take 2 weeks until they can look at it, They'll sit on it whilst they decide what to do and by the time they repair it it'll be close to nearly a month... Need to find another Renault dealer but thnaks for everyones input... I'll update once its sorted.
