Front or back ?

  BMW M3
Had a little confrontation with a crane lorry on a country road the other day which was HUGE ! Took up most of both lanes ! However, as id just came round a bend, i had to perform an emergency stop and either go left into the verge (tall grass) or disappear under the front of this lorry.

I took the verge option but unfortunately there was a hidden boulder in there. As a result, i now have a split sidewall on the front passenger side and is bulging quite a bit but not puntured.

Question is : do i put the tyre on the back until ive got a new one as their is less pressure on it when cornering and therefore less chance of blowout - or do i keep it on the front as a rear blow out is alot more nasty then a front one ?

Thanks

Well, im actually not going to be driving the car for 4-5 weeks soon and id rather spend money for a new tyre next month. Plus, my local tyre centre will charge me £140.... when i can get it from mytyres for 80 odd.

Yeah, i was thinking the back too. As long as i just keep it in town and not bomb it down the motorways lol.

Thanks mate.

yay, be in a town packed with people when it blows out, squish!
you should keep a little jar 2 put pennys in for emergency tyre replacement, like me! what a boff i am, lol.:)

After watching that vid from 5th gear someone posted the other day I'd rather a tyre blow out on the front than the back!

Its a tricky one i think.

The split is on the side of the tyre that gets most abuse out of all 4....... and thus much higher chances of blow out.

However, a blow out on the front is alot safer and controlable then the rear.

Hmmm

Not seen the 5th gear vid. Think i may have to get the bus pass out :( lol
