Front wheel bearing (Mk1)

Rumbling and knocking from the front right and a bit of movement all suggest that the wheel bearing is away on my gf's car :(

Anyone know the rough price of a new bearing? Probably do it myself but how much would a garage be after? (Time is short just now!)

Cheers
John

if you can get a number of the bearing theirs a place in whitburn called csb bearings that will have them for about a tenner each.if you've got a press and a knife edge bearing puller do it yourself if not i got two pressed in by ray(blackburn autos) for a tenner

I'm getting mine done this week, and its costing me about £60+ VAT, so not too bad!!

The reason they cost a lot is because they are pressed bearings, so you would struggle to it by yur self, unless you have the propper tools!!

Although you can do it with a vice and a clamp so i've heard from an old school mechanic, not too sure if its true or how easy it is!!!

The Bearings are about £17 - www.gsfcarparts.com if that helps!!!

A way to tell if it is the bearing definately is that when it compresses it shouldn't make a noise, i.e. if the drivers side bearing is going then when you turn right the noise will not be as distinctive and even go away, but than when you turn left or in a straight line (depending on how bad it is) the noise should be there, well thats what i got told - correct me if im wrong!!

HTH!!

Cheers,

Dumpy

You wont be able to do it yourself without a press. I done mine the other week and got to ten tons before the thing poped out.

Take the hub off, buy the bearing and get to a local garage to do it for you..

whats the hub bolt spacing on your clio (52 or 54mm)? I think you can find out the bearing size from that iirc.

s**t, the sizes i put were for MK1s, looks like yours is a mk2, so take no notice of the sizes.
