Fuel Consumption

alright then guys an gals i need your help, im only getting about 65 miles max per £10 of fuel, thats driving properly, normal road speeds no motorways, its in a mk3 2003 clio, 1.4 dynamique,

what kinda milage should i be getting?

i aint got a leak so can only think its burning too much fuel for some reason!!!!

can any of you help b4 i take it back to renault?

Thank you in advance!!!!

I get about 75, Even when I try to drive like a granny.
Sorry; might not be of much use as that is with a 96 Mk1.

nah, the engines bog standard, the mpg is 31.2, its even worse if i boot it, from oldbury to telford an back used half a tank the other night.
i think it could be a faulty fuel sensor, or faulty auto choke. (its ticking over @ 5k) is this normal?

my 1.2 gives 46-50 depending on how nice i drive.

what do you mean ticking over at 5k? as in 500rpm or 5000 :S

^ Ticking over at 5000rpm is probably your problem I would think (?), I am no mechanic though lol

It definately should not tick over at 5,000 RPM.

Ideally it should tickove at 1,200rpm.

Actually tell a lie, I put a tenner in yesterday and just filled up again now after 86 miles, might have streched to 90 as the fuel light was still disappearing over bumps but with no jerry can and with it pissing down outside why risk it.

Generally normal driving but a few mad moments where you get the urge just to caine it for a little while so no doubt that didn't help.

All that driving was stop start urban city driving, I'm currently on holiday from work for a week so I've been using the car a lot. A lot of short journeys so out of that tenner I reckon I've started the engine up about 9 times rather than continuos driving.

Can anyone advise me the best method of saving fuel? Currently I just aim to get it into fifth gear and leave it there pretty much until the thing starts jumping around and refusing to carry on.
But as a habbit I think I'm shifting too quick, I'm having to open the throttle all the way to build the revs up as after I shift they are around like 1,500 is this bad?

Also; should I turn the heating off in replace for a jumper - is it the warmer the engine the more economical it is - as the temp guage runs on average 1.4 of the way up.

I'm asking all of this because until the 23rd I'm literally broke and all the petrol is coming from The Bank Of Mum© - 0% APR.

Is 800 okay mines there when ideal temp is reached, cold it sits at 1200.

YEP ........when cold the automatic choke keeps it there ish imo . then calms down when car warms up to 800

Might try and get my idle increased to about 900 if its easy? as at night with the sub on it makes the lights flicker lol.

Edit: and surely theres got to be something up with his rev counter because if your car idles at 5k you know theres something wrong regardless. If mine done that I'd get out and run before it blows up.

In my last car the idle adjustment was literally a screwdriver job to tighten it or loosen it.

If your car is seriously idling at 5,000rpm mate it is wrong mate, very wrong - but im thinking your dials much be reading incorrectly to be giving you that feedback.

Take it to a garage and get an opinion.

Smaller engines need to work harder, therefore less mpg.
My 182 does around 34 as an average of D/C's and A roads
