fuel gague

i took my valver in to the garage to have the rear break pads done. when i got the car back i noticed when i switched the engine off the fuel gague did not reset its self to zero like it used to do. i took it back to the garage to see if they did anything abnormal, but as like all garages they said it was not there fault (not me guv attitude). i find it hard to be a coincidence that this happens when i take my car in for a job to be done. has this happened to any1 and what is the problem with it. it is a bit of a concern as i have no idea how much fuel i have in the clio.

Please help!!!!!!
