fuel, glorious fuel

Took my 182 as low as I dared on the fuel guage today, ran about 30 miles with the light on, filled her up and it only took 43.5 litres! Where is the other 6.5litres?! Either the guage is completely un-accurate of they are very generous with the measurement of the tank!

One of these days il take a jerry can of fuel out with me and run the car til it runs out completely, that should give the definitive answer or has anyone else done this already?

I posted the same thing over a year ago. Ive never (60 miles plus on warning light) been able to get more than 45 litres into the car.

when i have ran mine to the light it usually has about 3 litres left in it.

Ive often wondered about this too. Even with the needle is firmly in the red I still have a good 10 litres in the tank!!

I might see if I can get the light on then.

scared to let the 182 run down that far.

ive managed 48litres in mine after running it 50 miles after light came on which was 20 miles more that the trip said I could do!

Very scarey though when i was down to the end as i wanted a shell garage and knew where it was but didnt know whether i could make it, it was exactly like clarkson was on top gear, drove like a saint!

I went through 2 Shell garages today before I found the one with Optimax, pain in the arse running with the good stuff!

Im driving to England from Scotland on Monday, il sit at 60 all the way with no electric gozmos running, lets see how far i make it!

it aint clever runin ure car empty! it just drags the sh*t off the bottom of the tank and screws ya car up and in some cases slows it down!

This reminds me, when the f*ck is the petrol warning light supposed to come on an a MK1 clio (1.4 RT to be exact)?

The guage has been at the bottom and ive put 36 litres in (40litre tank iirc) when i filled up. Surely it should come on before theres only 4litres left?!

I must have a faulty light or summat

surely this is what the fuel filter is good for mate?

What they said ^^^^

Ive seen the bottom of my petrol tank on a F reg Ren 19, it was spotless. They have a filter in the actual sender unit and an in line fuel filter, there wont be any sh*t sucked up.
