fuel pressure regulator?

i was just wondering can you run a car without a fuel pressure regulator?because im in the middle of a conversion and my fuel pump hasnt got one built in so will i need one?or can i run it without for the time being?

If its EFi then you will need a fpr If the pump assy does not have one fitted you will need to fit one into the fuel rail.

its for a 172 engine.can i fit one into the fuel line just before the fuel rail?and would it run without one?
