Fully comp on dad's car?

Hi,

I have insurance on my 197 through elephant but they won't insure me on my father's car. I actually didn't realise that if I get insured on my 197 through another company, I'll ionly have 3rd party insurance if I drive another car. Is there any way I can get insured on my own car whilst getting covered FULLY COMP on my dad's?

Insure you car as normal.

Then get added to your dads policy as a named driver?

Ive got my own insured, also added as named drivers both on my sisters car and folks car.

Get your name on your father's policy, or insure it through Aviva's dayinsure website, provided it's sub £40k.

I went to Le Mans in my mother's then new S-Line Avant 3.0 litre tdi quattro (just under £40k) for 5 days for £25 last year.

But as a named driver - I am still only 3rd party from what I have been told by the 'experts'.

The car, I'm fraid is not sub 40k

Nope.

All depends who he is insured with but it shudnt matter, im assuming he is fully comp on his policy?

A named driver will/should have the same cover.

My folks car is fully comp. Me as a NAMED DRIVER on the polic is also fully comp.
Simply CHECK with the insurer tho.

911 Gaz. Right guys, a bit complicated here.

My dad wants to insure the 911 but has another car for work. He initially wanted to insure the 911 with a separate company but has been told by a separate company (Kwik Fit in this case) that he couldn't carry over his full no claims bonus from his other car to the 911 and was subsequently quoted a silly amount of money (with me added).

We have no knowledge of multi-car policies...is this a way he could insure both cars on the one policy, include me as a named driver on the 911 AND ensure I am FULLY COMP on it?

Also, if he was to go down that route, would his current company refund him any outstanding money?

Finally, any multi-car policy insurance companies you can suggest?

Cheers,

Martin

Thats true.

If he is using the NCB on one car he cannot use it on another in this case the 911.

So any policy he would start on that would be 0 NBC.

BUT as you say about Multi Car policy. Its not another policy as such, it depends if the insurer offers it.

Tesco, who i am with offer this as do direct line and a good few others.

What they do is give you a discount for having another car insured with them. But they dont give you extra NCB. What they do is match the discount sometimes.

Only way to do this is to ring and check who he is insured with. Maybe run thru a quote online.

But once he has the new policy, you should have no problem being added to that. Dependign on your age etc... might be expensive tho, seeing as its an expensive car.

If he has to move to another company, he should be able to cancel his current policy but would loose this NCB earned for this year and may nto get back a substantial amount from them.

admiral do multi-car, provided your over 21 you should get covered on most things. The price may be another story though lol

Did a quote for some fun on all of our cars...could only get covered for one! :(

What age are you?

  Fiesta ST2
this is right you can only use your no claims on one car at a time.. however i was nearly sure you could transfer your no claims unless kwik fit are a shower of b*****ds :)

I'm 25 next week and am obviously expecting a reduction in my own insurance!

The guy from Kwik Fit didn't know what the IAM was and when I spelled my reg phonetically he asked me if I could say it again...this time phonetically! WTF!

LOL guys - I'm feckin gutted: £3600 with admiral multi - ludicrous!

I don't want to go down the third party route as I am not willing or able to pay to have a 911 fixed if I cause an accident. Not worth the risk imo.

your obviously not short of a few bob (or your family at least)

i say it almost worth the risk to be driving a 911 and other cars at 25!!

granted though; 3rd party is a huuge risk!

It's my dad's hard work - not mine I'm afraid!

I honestly can't take the risk - the stumbling block is due to the no-claims being non transferable. I'll guess I'll have to stick with looking at and washing it lol
