Fun times in the land of Repair (Clio Phase 1 Yellow)

  Clio 172
Hey everyone,

So i have a wonderful yellow 172 phase 1,
And its time to do injectors,
Could someone advise on the bosch partcode or alternate perhaps ?

  Clio 172
Alright so i'm going to get new injectors from ECP,
As well as a fuel filter and accelerator cable.

What i have done so far on the car,
Engine rebuild, Cup suspension back and front, gearbox, clutch,
This issue is quite new and i thought it was a fuelling problem so i put in a new fuel pump yesterday,
no change

the car will bog down sometimes once i start it,
or get stuck in the 3-4k rpm zone, if i put foot it will lag a bit and accelerate past it.

Here is a video of idle now,

Any advice from the pro's on the forum would be appreciated

Okay so

Checked the spark plugs today, they all good,
cleaned out the MAF sensor.

There is 0 change,
if i drive the car full tilt all the time there are no issues at all.
Any ideas ?

  Clio 172
Alright so,
got it diagnosed by someone that isnt me,
Renault shop, They rate its coil pack and HT leads.
So they replacing that now, will update tomorrow if that sorts it out

  Clio 172
Coil pack and leads done,
no difference,
accelerator cable done, no difference.

ECU maybe ?
Perhaps sensors ?

Was plugged into OBD at renault and 0 faults found

  Clio 172
Swapped the MAF from my silver phase 1 into my yellow phase 1,
and the low rpm startup is sorted,
however its still getting stuck in the rev range,
perhaps a spring or pedal sensor or something not working ??

  Clio 172
Quick question,
My phase 1 has this thing blocked,
My phase 1 facelift has a tube going from it,
when the car is on, it pushes air out from this

Not that.

  Clio 172
For those interested :)

I replaced,
Fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors, crank position sensor, ignition leads, coil pack,
MAF sensor,

ANNNNNDDD

It ended up being the VVT sensor,
Car is running like a dream now

Great news :)

But the rule of cliosport is if you have a phase 1 in yellow you have to post LOTS of photos ;)

  Clio 172
Nevermind, problem is not fixed.

However its only occuring when the car is cold now, seems to be fine once i drive it around for awhile.
Will upload some videos of what its been doing.

I HAVENT replaced the throttle position sensor,
accelerator pedal position sensor, throttle body, idle control valve, lambda sensor

Could it be an ECU problem maybe ? or worn relays in the fuse box ? worn wires by the ecu ?

Running out of ideas :D and patience haha

Videos below

Please ignore my voice, was talking to my mechanic (South African branch of RS Tuning)
we both have no idea wtf is happening on this car anymore, when it was booked in with him there were no faults, it finally threw a fault up and its why we did the VVT sensor, he drove it around for a week with no issue, i get it back and three days in same problem (Note i changed nothing, didnt even fill up petrol)

Mechanically the car is tip top, it drives like an absolute dream untill it starts hiccuping.
We both think this must be electric

Silly question but are all the earths as they should be? The earth underneath the airbox at the back of the gearbox was loose on my car and it acted like it was insane!! With the car off the road it took me a week to find the fault. Worth a look to see if its tight.

Not sure man, will check tomorrow, any other earthing points i should check ?

Everything was in order here,
car is still acting up

It gets progressively worse, im starting to think there is some build up or blockage ?
Came back from doing the work above and it was working fine,
the stuttering is getting more n more everyday

Mine did this when cold, it was the pre lambda sensor. If like the Phase 2 you can swap the pre and post lambda around to see if that's your issue.

Nothing worse than firing the parts cannon at these old Renaults to no avail :(

Thanks man.

ANyone else have any ideas i can check ?

Hey all

Decided to put some pics up :)
Car has been a nightmare lately, it drives but driving me up the wall with this nonsense.

Its a 2001 model with 156k km on the clock.
Hasnt had a clean in a month or so though, mostly been in shop or i've been working on it.

Lots of paint work n some dents to sort still, but need to get it driving right before going onto that

Alright so,

this hesitation / stuttering / stopping in the rev range used to happen all the time, after getting it back from it last workshop visit it now only happens when the car is cold.

  Clio 172
AND IT IS FINALLY FIXED,
The ECU was to blame, looks like the prior owner had someone messing around with the software.
Got the ECU map sent RSTUNING UK, Response was WTF IS THIS,
New map sent back and loaded by RSTUNING SA and the car is sorted

Long story shorty, if its being weird electrically and no faults are coming up
get the ECU checked first, get the map read by people who have the tools to do it

  Clio 172
So just to carry on with this,
Yellow car has now had the break servo removed and repaired as the revs were very up and down, seems there was a leak,
also replaced the accelerator cable whilst the servo was out.

Cause why not.

It seems i can finally start on cosmetic items.
First up is a redone steering wheel and to fix the paint work / dents on bonnet

yes accelerator cable again, i know. the one i had in felt odd

  Clio 172
Oh right she was in now as the fan stopped turning on,
so replaced the entire fan, new radiator and sensor things on the fan,
cooling is working as it should now

  Clio 172
Morning everyone

still busy on this little project and it seems i need a steering rack ?
Does it need to be an exact same unit or do other renaults by chance use the same steering rack ? if not any recommendations ?
