G3 help

Yo sup guys

Kinda new to this whole "extreme car washing" thing and i got a question, from your experience what would you say is the best way to apply G3? and how much do i apply? to one car ofcourse.

indeed, if it is, your best to start with the least aggressive combo you have and work up the way rather than going in full pelt and marring the finish.

application: should be like any other polish, i think it would be best by machine for easier/quicker results

Aggresive in what way? i heard that it was a good compound to help get rid of any paint imperfections and swirls? however i am soon going to be giving it a good claying, so would it still be advisable to use G3 after the claying process or is that gonna turn out to be a bit to harsh?

I think g3 is quite agressive also, try something like meguiars number 80- speed glaze.

Depends what "G3" polish it is and how your applying it mate. I have G3 Hand glaze which hides the swirls etc. Use by hand and just apply a bit to the centre of a polish applicator (about a quid from halfords) and cover the car with a THIN layer. Dont worry about agressive etc as you can't ruin your paint unless your using a machine polisher lol.

Ok cheers mates, well i think ill stick to the G3 and use a hand applicator, however im going to be claying my car

so, do i first clay it, then apply G3 by hand, hand polish of any excess G3 and then continue with the wax etc (by machine) ?

wash/clay/rinse/dry/polish/PROTECT/wax. for the protection you can use EGP or carlack nano but not to worry if you haven't got anything like that just wax straight after the polish.

Aaaaah cheers mate, really appreciate the help...hoping to bring my white angle back to pure pure white, instead if the weathered weak white it currently is

considering your cars white, the claying and polishing stage will be the most important.
white is very hard to see defects with anyway.

right thanks for the heads up...yeah im more worried about getting rid of all the impurities and s**t to try and restore the colour to new ... cause its not white like it should be plus it also doesnt shine much, more of a bland shine which dont really please me.

I work in a bodyshop and use G3 on a machine polisher everyday on painted panels that have been wet sanded down, so yes it is fairly aggresive - if you squeeze a little onto your hand you'll feel it's quite gritty. If your a complete novice I wouldn't recommend using G3 on a machine until you're a bit more experienced, I could quite easily eat right through the lacquer using G3 if I wanted to. It also depends on whether you have the paste compound or liquid compound G3, the liquid one being a bit less aggresive.

wow, i appreciate all the help but all these statements are so controversial. one person says its safe to use, and the next says it isnt ... i really just wanna restore my dullish paint back to a beautifull factory shine ... guessing ill just go with a clay, machine polish and machine wax ... would that do? taking into account i am quite novice to all this detailing.

It will remove scratches and very bad swirl marks but is definately overkill if you just want to get rid of some swirls. It cuts through paint in a few seconds so id advise you to go for a less abrasive type of "polish" rather then a "compound"

aaaight, ill give a good clay and polish a shot first.

G3 is perfectly safe by hand, but I wouldn't recommend a novice using it with a machine.

+1 i work in a body shop and have to use g3 very often. your paint would have to be very very thin to burn through when using by hand but when using a machine its more liklel that you will burn through. this is because of the heat buildup from the mopping pad. to help this i would strongly recommend using pleanty of water however this makes the job a lot messier so i would also mask up all the rubbers and trims as its a bi*ch to get off. also be carefull when doing the edges of panels as the paint is at its thinnest there.
there are different grades of the g3 like said. there is g3, g7 and g10
g3 is more for cutting, g7 is more for polishing and g10 is more for removing the swirls. all of them can be used by hand but you can only use g3 and g7 with a machine polisher. after using them i would recommend using a polish to remove the remaing little swirls and any exess g3 that is still on the panel. oh and do it a panel at a time, it makes it easyer to know where you are with the process and keep clean

There's also a G3 liquid compound and a G3 paste compound, the liquid compound being a bit less aggresive and easier to use IMO.
