Gear box removal

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk1
Hello, im reaching the stage of gear box rebuild, as third gear is becoming increasingly stubborn (crunchy).
i have a good mechanic who can do the rebuilding, but he has said that we may need to remove the engine as well as the gear box.

the last time i did this in a 106 rallye the engine was left in place, which is clearly easier.
can any one cast any light on this, ie can we remove the box on its own?

(car is a ph1 172)

thanks
Graeme.

You can do it either way depends what you want to do.

Just drop the subframe on one side and pull it out though the hole you've got or take the engine out.

Engine outs easy if you intend chnaging the cambelt at the same time.

thanks,
the same fella did the cam belt 6k miles ago and told me not to bring it back for another belt change.... ever!... he gave some flesh and blood from his knuckles into that job....

any way sounds like i will manage to take the box out my self then present him with a box.

thanks again.
