Gear change on a 172 Cup

Anyone had any problems with the gear change being a bit notchy on a Cup?

Probably the box on its way out m8y...usually I think its 3rd that goes but not sure. Mine sometimes grinds into third are high revs (you cant change quickly either) and sometimes 4th when you are just pottering around town.

Get a K-tec bottom engine mount and a B&M Quickshift for the best solution.

Ultimately the box is crap so rush gearchanges are hit and miss plus its a bit fragile.

Mine sometimes needs a damn good push to get into third, especially when changing down.

Do you think I could get that changed under warranty if I was to moan at my dealer or would they more than likely tell me to bugger off!

The warranty runs out in march.

What was the outcome with the gearbox problem? I have the same problem with my gearbox changing down into 3rd and my car is still under warranty.
 


Wow, I have the same problem - find 3rd sometimes grinds when you are changing quick. It seems it is a common problem for Clio. BTW, i have the B&M short shift too.

Really want to know if others Clio has sticky gear changing problem when in hot weather and after a while of driving, like 20mins.

i have the same problem in third...its really quite unpredictable, but it usually happens when im shifting over 4000 rpm from 4th down to third...can be very annoying at times...



what did you mean by "box on the way out"?...i was considering to have that fixed, but if its not a potentialy serious problem, i would prefer the gearbox not being tampered with...

Mine used to, must of got used to it. Think i just hold the clutch down an incy bit longer between 2nd and 3rd.
 


If Im a bit too quick going from 1st to 2nd itll grind like hell! Cue much embarrasment and having to start the gear change again :oops:. I probably just need to lift off a bit more :(

i got 60,000 miles out of the standard box with no issues at all. you have to be agressive with the change in my experience. The short shift seems to be the biggest problem on the 172s, people who have them, have gearbox problems. I find the standard stick more than adequate...

Just got back from my dealer, and to clarify my car is completely standard, apart from the ITG Panel Filter.

Anyway, they actaully acknowledged there is a problem, which I was shocked by, thought I would be in for an arguement! They said they now need to contact Renault UK and find out if its cheaper to change the whole box or fix the current problem. Didnt even realise that could happen, but I should hear back by Monday so will update all those with this problem then!
 


I took my car in on tuesday and mentioned the following problems


the car was hard to change from 4th to 3rd and from 3rd to 2nd
The car makes a wobbly knock when doing a u turn then accelerating
my passenger seat latch is faulty

car needs a new gearbox - which will be done under warranty
wobbly knock is a common problem and reno has a fix which they will install for free
seat will be sorted - under warranty
not happy about gearbox going when its only done 30k and i dont rag it (much) but glad problem has been found and it isnt costing me :)

Car will be going in this tuesday coming and hopefully thats the last problem i will have for a while.

I took mine in and it is currently getting the new box fitted. I have the quickshift on and TBH I think Ill get shut....it is a good gearchange but I dont think its much better than the std.....

Ive had the 3rd to 4th or 4th to 3rd problem a few times too.

Having a play around with the gearbox I think its down to 3rd and 4th not being in line with each other...

Thats how my gearbox feels...once out of 4th, its not straight into 3rd, but off at a slight angle.

Anyone else have a wonky box like mine?

I have more trouble 2nd to 3rd tbh.... especially whn being a bit enthusiastic. i put it down to the driving position though. To get sat comfortably behind the wheel and farenough away from the pedals, I have to stretch to put the car in 3rd. Crunches like buggery.

I think I may also be trying to change too fast. If you think about it, you dont really need to change gear in micro second. asmoothe change is just as important.
