gear lever problem

  soon to be 182 ;)
right, the other day i got a branch wedged under my car in under where the gear lever was causing the gear lever to jam in the neautral position, i pulled out the branch and all was fine till today, when i got in my car this morning and now when you move the gear lever it makes a squeaky grinding noise when you move it into gears, nothing to do with gearbox as you can clearly hear it inside the car coming from bit at the bottom of gear stick, does it just need a grease or could the branch have damaged something? i dont know much about the gear lever mechanism any ideas people, be reliable again cs

my car is a mk2 ph1 1.4s btw

if it sounds like its literally the gear stick making the noise, take the gator and the casing off and have a look, see if anything looks damaged. or just take it into a garage to get looked at?

Perhaps the heat shield bended and touches the gear linkage. Can you select all gears? Have a look, it's very simple mechanism.

sounds to me like a bent headsheild,
theyre easily bent, id get someone else to wobble the selector while you look underneith,
as said, its a very very simple mechanism.

ive got this in mine, when pushing the lever left toward reverse, you can hear/feel it grinding on something.
I just ignore it tbh lol.
