Gear oil change - 172

Anyone done this themselves?, although its not supposed to be a serviceable item I want to see if I can improve the gear change with new oil. Could do with some pointers as to where the drain(S) and filler are, anyone tried an alternative oil to the 75W80W listed in the handbook?

square drain plug on the underside of the gearbox.plastic filler plug on the front of the gearbox.hold approx 3 litres.

We use Elf ATF D3 synthetic is our sport boxes and it´s super stuff. Originaly used for automatic gearboxes but used in Renault racing as gearbox oil. Both in Sequential and stock RS boxes !!

Ive read mixed views about using ATF on other sites, any downsides of using ATF? does it need to be changed more frequently?

not in my knowledge, Renault uses it as a person comes in with trouble with the gearbox. We use it in Clioracers also as standard. Changing once every half year for racegearboxes.

If I used the ATF would I still have to change it every 6 months or could I treat it as normal....
