Gear stick gator

Ive got a Cup, and the gear gator has come away from the housing

there is a load of brown sludge/grease on the two sides of it, where it sits on the housing. is this sludge there to fix the leather gator and ring to the bottom housing ? or are they supoosed to be two lugs to keep it in place ?

i can see a large forward lug, but not one at the bottom ? is there supposed to be one there and its broken off, or is the brown sludge/grease supposed to "glue" the gator in place ?

how do i get the Brown sludge off, anybody know what it is ?

i think ill clean it off, and super glue the gator down

Dont superglue it down its supposed to come up when you need to replace gearbox center concel surround (ie the bit its attached to).
Ill have a look what the stuff could be in a minute

could the stuff eb the lubricant off the bit where the gearsick moves at the bottom?

there are supposed to be 2 lugs in place at the back and one large one at the front, if you look in the gear surround you will see the holes for it.

dont know if its the same sort of attachment as my authentique but when mine broke off i found the lugs that had broken off (they fell into the hole) and superglued tham back on. alternatively you could try supergluing a couple of bits of thin plastic on as a replacement (try an old credit card or something).
